On line reporting question

I may be one of the few 10 year visa persons. Perhaps my experiences will be helpful to any others who go this route. I did it mainly to make sure that I don’t run afoul of any tax issues when bringing a lot of USA money in annually, and to eliminate having to go to immigration ever, keep money on deposit, or get ‘re-entry permits’ as we travel a lot. Apart from that, regular retirement visas are absolutely cheaper, and not too hard. Did that for 7 years. But what is unclear for me as yet is how the ‘90 days’ registration works for 10 yearers. They advertise that we only have to notify yearly, not every 90 days, and the clock gets reset every time you re-enter. Which should mean I never have to register. However, this conflicts with the notion that every time you stay in a hotel, they report you staying there. Then you go ‘home’ to the house you built but your wife owns (usually) per the law. In other words, do we have to do anything if we just travel around Thailand and return home?

Now that Thailand is digitizing systems, it might be prudent to check with immigration concerning your question.
In the past, I traveled frequently, never had a problem just doing 90 day reports confirming residence
with a non O retirement temporary extension.

Sometimes some more questions you ask opens a can of worms.

I understand Thailand trying to track potentially illegal activity. But to have no exception for long term retirees who have a long term home address seems pointless. Build in a way to have a default residential address in Thailand for such? Just an idea. Save your effort for likely cases to track. Wasting energy tracking the likes of us doesn’t make sense. In cases like ours, unless we’re traveling (inside or outside of Thailand), we’re just home in Isaan.

Not rocket science is it?

Unfortunately, the Thais are not yet capable of making the differentiation.... "Good guys in, bad guys out" Is a great theory but it would help if the good guys we're thrown a few crumbs of gratitude/understanding that our long-term presence is beneficial to the country.

It’s not just a Thai problem. The USA is not doing a very good job recently on treating honest, beneficial immigrants better than undesirables. My Thai wife got USA citizenship ASAP so we would not have to deal with bureaucrats that have great power over you with little accountability or recourse. Some are very nice people, but others are awful. Under the current rules, I’m not sure that my Thai relatives will be allowed to even visit us when we’re in USA—if you’re poor and Thai, they always say no, without explanation or recourse. It was much easier for us to get approval to visit China.

Not being contrary to your post.
Amazing Thailand !
Something that makes sense in Thailand and is logical ??
Save your effort for likely cases to track could be called "Profiling". Common in the US and ?
What is transpiring in Thailand now will make plenty of worms for your garden.

Gemini AI tells me that even though I hold a 10 year visa, my wife must report my residency at our house in Isaan (owned by her) online (TM30) within 24 hours. We’ve set that up, and it’s pretty easy. Just annoying. At least in the USA, we don’t have to report such. We’re free to come and go as we please without any notifications. Nor do Permanent Resident Visa holders have to report. As a practical matter, I might never run into it as a problem, although once we had to pay a fine because I had not done my 90 day. Ugh. Apparently it can come up when renewing drivers license, or making an insurance claim.
