That's ridiculous. "Seventeen foreigners of various nationalities have been arrested at a condominium in Chiang Mai for working illegally in the country after they were found providing online English courses to Chinese customers...."

It's not like they were taking away jobs from Thais is it? What a farce.

Not really a farce.

Foreigners MUST HAVE work permits to work in Thailand...plain and simple.

The greater farce can be found at schools and language centers around Thailand that employ foreigners without work permits...many working on tourist visas for six month stints.

No worries as in most cases these mostly younger travelers are much better than lessor qualified non-native English speaking teachers that do not speak or comprehend English properly.

What is a farce is the amateur nature of their operation. They could of been spread out and doing the lessons in their own homes via VPN.
Yes you are quite right Mike. Teaching English is not on the restricted occupations list.
Someone running the organization obviously could not be bothered to tick all the right boxes.

At least they were not running some kind of investment scam, which has been the norm in recent years.

What is astonishing is they were teaching English to the Chinese.

I can see what you mean though by farce, there is so many other areas that need attention, and they pick on this. Are you really surprised though.

The Nation reports.

"The school offered a one-on-one English language course for clients in China. A Thai national was among those arrested."

OK Now, why was a Thai national arrested? What was his crime?

Oh I know it was his apartment and he did not report the farangs sleeping there to immigration on the appropriate form. F*%ked if I know. Crazy1

I just hope the school/agency owners get nabbed to along with the teachers.

Too lazy to follow the story (apologies) but was the internet company located in Thailand or off-shore????
