The recent crackdown by the authorities on perennial border runners is causing a mass influx of "tourists" at the Vientiane Consulate. Someone posted today on the Bangkok Expats page on Facebook that there were more than 600 people at the consulate this morning ... a 5 hour wait, even for those who arrived before 8:30.

1. Avoid Mondays and Thursdays at the consulates/embassies. That's when the visa tour agencies arrive.

2. Go to Savannakhet. It's quieter and less hassle.

Wow! 600 people waiting in the queue. Seems there are a lot of 'runners' living in Thailand.

Visa cues.

In March, myself, my wife and 7yo daughter waited in a cue for 71/2 hours in the Bang Na passport office to get my daughter her Thai passport.
What a freiken shit fight.
When we finally got to the head of the cue, we were # 495.
From the head of the cue it took 25 minutes, done and dusted.
We were told that it would take 7 working days to get the passport.
This occured on a Tuesday.
We changed all our flights and booked an extra 7 days accomodation, ( Bye bye $3,000 ).
Saturday morning @ 10.30am, there was a knock on the door of our suite and, standing
at the door was a courier with passport in hand.
Gotta love Thai efficiency, not.
