Well got the daughters Thai passport finally. Long story short,, she is my niece, I adopted her in the US about 10 yrs ago. She lived with us in the States and got US citizenship. She was adopted and given a new name. Well it did not line up with her Thai documents as far as name. We had been told that Thailand did not recognize the adoption because we did not go through their process. But until now it did not matter. So first we went the the local ampher and got her named changed and moved to the wife's house book. Her birth parents (bother in law) had to be there and sign. Then we went to Pattaya where they live close to for a passport. Well they said no the with the adoption from America we had to go to Bangkok to the Foreign Affairs consult and get the America adoption papers stamped. She entered Thailand with her US passport. So she got 90 day stay. The wife called immigrations in Surin as what to do, they said oh, she has to apply for visa to stay like any US citizen wife said but she is Thai? they said no matter she has US passport. Wife called Bangkok immigrations with the same results. She was over her 90 days so the wife took her to the boarder by Lao to do what ever she had to do pay fine and reenter to give us mor time. They looked at her passport, her Thai ID card and said no problem she is Thai US thing does not matter she can stay forever because she is Thai. So we went to Bangkok to Foreign Affairs consult to get the Adoption papers stamped. they looked at the document and said we had to go through the Thailand adoption process...Wife said look she is 18, it would take 3-5 years to go through the process she will be 20 in 2. They shook their heads and agreed, but then said we need a document from State dept, certify the Adoption papers and signed off by the consult in LA, USA. Wife said all she wanted was a passport they said go downstairs to the passport office and deal with them. Got to the desk present all the documents they looked at everything and said needed the stamp from upstairs, told the they said no can do. The boss looked at everything for a while called the wife back up and told her that her birth parents needed to sign a form and no problem. Wife to him about Pattaya when we were all there he looked confused and said if she got document from parents he would do it. So wife called her brother he said they could go get form the next morning. Next morning we are at the passport office in Bangkok waiting on her brother to email the document, got it, got it printed out, went to the passport office desk, big boss looked at it and said OK, Daughter then got her Thailand passport with her US name in it...That's all we wanted....
