Calling teachers Sir or Miss is sexist; how PC can you get?

Luckily in Thailand we are called ajarn, or perhaps kru, irrespective of gender.

But why, as the Professor who said this claims, is Miss somehow degrading?

Good question, IB. I don't see it either.
The Portuguese solution, rather like the Thai one, is to call teachers "Teacher John, Teacher Mary" etc, in Portuguese "Professor John, Professora Mary".
