IMHO avoid the place like the PLAQUE on weekends which includes Fridays. Every mother, son and he/she is going to it or the crossing on those days and Gamblers for the casino. ;;grimace;;;;horror;;There is an excellent vegetable and fruit market on both side of the 214 but the best time for them is about 5 am. The main market is on your left has off street parking in back. The market itself has an excellent selection of knock off and pirated goods that Big Joke has not found.;;bad simle;;;;money;;

SWMBO goes about 5 am for the fresh market as I stay in bed for more beauty rest.;;bad simle;; During the day when she goes for the soybean curd and o the Tesco I tag alone. but not on a weekend.;;victory;;

Sorry but that map sucks. GPS 14.4541481995, 103.687875277. This location is on the your left or north side of the 214. Go to Google Earth and you can see the market and directly behind it is the parking area. To enter off the 214 GPS 14.4544933234, 103.686202025 which is about 200 meters west of the first GPS mark. turn left off the 214 at this point and there is a parking attended collecting money (20baht):D
 
The lower of the 2 maps shows where the market used to be. I visited many times. The border was not a full border as it now is, and whilst a Thai had to pay to cross, a farang did not. You could take a motorcy taxi for 10bt down the hill to the local market or for 20 bt a bit further on to visit the local whorehouses. My driver was blissfully unaware that my wife was aboard the motorcy ahead (we were only going to market), and not just wanting to take me to the whorehouses, explained there were 3 different rates. Chinese girls were the most expensive, followed by Cambodians with the cheapest being the Vietnamese. This would have been circa 2002/2003

Getting from the market to the border was itself quite a novelty. There was a sort cart capable of holding 4 people strapped to a man who would effectively pull the cart. Going uphill was a slow process and a number of boys would push from behind., Going back to the market however was different. No boys required to push. It was a downhill run and the man would run at alarming speeds. What would hapen if he tripped? Fun but dangerous. All for 20 baht. Alas, before the market closed, the cart was abandoned and travel up to the market and back was on the back of motorbike.

One could buy and bring back 1 case of beer from the market inside Cambodia. I recall buying a case of 24 small Leo on each visit for 275baht. At a fraction over 11 baht/bottle...aroi mak mak!

That area is still there and has been upgraded for expansion of the existing market area. This area was also my first visit to the market. GPS 14.4449529933, 103.706037815

Also at the existing market area the vegetables and fruit stalls are on both sides of the highway with the better ones on the south with sometimes baguette which is brought in from O'Smach. And just in back of the off street parking area inback of the market they used to have a proper dirt track set up with organized dirt bike racing.

Yes it is shocking. It is not just the border closure that killed it. They ripped the soul out of it. It does not resemble a market of any type. It is a dystopian landscape of shop blocks that nobody will ever populate or customers patronize. The designer of this monstrosity needs his ass kicked.
 
Side note. There was a time way backwhen you could get FRESS BAGUETTES everyday at this market by Cambodians. 1786415663153.png
