Surin has a full resevoir unlike Korat and other parts of Thailand. Korat reported today that its 5 major resevoirs are less than 30% full, in other words nearly empty. The pictures of King Bumibol dam on the news today showed very little water. I fear we are looking at hard times ahead with a big drought coming to Thailand very soon.

Is Huai Saneng actually used as a reservoir? It's pretty shallow at the best of times, and overflows every year with monotonous regularity.

I always thought it was, together with the other one that is very close to it. Both have man-made retaining banks on their western edge, together with proper emergency overflows and sluice channels to take the excess water away. Both references shown below confirm that it is Surin's resevoir.

While reservoir officials have opened a sluice gate to discharge excess water, local residents are still being warned to be wary of a possible overflow of the reservoir's stored water."

A couple of months ago the water level at the back of the house was ...................
And today, since opening the sluice gates at the resevoir, its "6 feet high and rising" .............
The rice is not doing very well but at least it looks pretty from the back of the house.

The water level rose another 12" last night and the road/lane linking the 2 parts of Kokpalat across the fields is now fully under water. Its only a couple of years since the water was lapping at the garden wall - a full 2 meters plus in depth. Hey, this is becoming serious.
