Wednesday family night out dining (the one night each week our restaurant is closed). Good food, live music, great Thai place near our house. Lan Chang Thai restaurant. On the 214 highway across from Robinson's Mall. Directly across from Rob's old 214 Diner. My third time eating there now. Nice place. Huge. Private rooms as well if you want to party. Excellent house band. Man those three can sing. 2 guys on guitar and a woman vocalist. The family love their music.

New Year's Eve 2021. Welcome 2022. Laughter, good foods, good live music, great place to eat and be merry (Laan Chang Restaurant) just up the street from our place. They have such wonderful pleasant attentive staff. Huge place and we had plenty of social distancing. All staff masked. And, one reason I chose them was the whole front of the place facing the 214 highway in front has these huge windows that they can open up to let the fresh air into the place. The back of the place is open to the air as well, so a good breeze/air current helps keep the air fresh and clean. I got us seats at one of the tables next to one of these open windows.
We had a grand night with some Penfold's Shiraz wine (AUS red, good brand/vineyards), a bottle of Champagne BRUT I managed to find, coffees, and a ton of food. Excellent evening. Perfect.
Happy New Year all friends and family near and far. Best of luck, health and wealth in the new year of 2022.

Is that the restaurant with the large swimming pool behind?
Not that I've seen. Just a parking lot in back. It is almost directly across from the 214 side entrance to Robinson's. Just a bit down. Almost cross from the old 214 Diner actually. Right near you. P.S. Your wife and girls would love it. Nice little Thai band in there as well doing Thai classics.

Ok, I know exactly where you mean. I am not sure I share your assessment of a "nice little Thai band". I listen to the bloody noise every night! The food looks very good. Is it as expensive as they say? What is the average cost for a family of 4?

If you get a lot of dishes like we do I'd say around 500 baht per person. No booze included, though they do have some nice cocktails too if you want. We do order a lot and share around. But it is excellent food, staff and premises. They do have a couple glassed in air con rooms as well you can use. We go there for special times, like we do at the Haku Zou restaurant as well (which actually is a bit cheaper). It's not a weekly place to go really. There's a ton of other places we can/could use, but right now these are not as Covid 'friendly' places in my humble opinion. Tried the White House recently. Would have been fairly inexpensive, but I wanted to try one of their steaks, which was 1 K baht in itself. But with their Thai dishes, and a couple large Heinekens, the bill would have been around 1K total. I'm waiting for Dome to reopen the Hippy House restaurant. Love their food and quite cheap actually, even adding in a couple beers. Many places are not up to par these days as well due to small customer base and Covid. If I find a place we like I stick it into our family night out rotation.

By the way, who is 'they' that say? I find it reasonable for what you get, the venue itself, extremely attentive staff, no drunken louts about, and its close proximity to home. If we want to save money on dining out we will usually hit one of the many restaurants in Robinson's Mall.

Who says it's expensive - girl talk! Our bills when we do eat out, air-conditioned of course, are usually in the region of 2,400 to 2,700 baht, with a couple of beers thrown in for me. Thanks, @Cent, looks like I will have to give it a try, maybe later this month for my upcoming birthday bash.

Our bin the other night was 2008 baht. 4 people. I brought my own wine (they do have a good wine list there with reasonable prices) and a bottle of bubbly. There was no corkage fee as we had a lot of food. No problem.

And right around the corner from you. Maybe while there you can have a talk with the band to turn it down. LOL

Personally I would say something like "Music is life s blood" Don t you find without listening to music everything sounds so dull & maybe a bit depressing.
When you hear some good music which ever country you are in , don t you think it gives people a lift /high-it does me & helps people keep "Young at Heart!

I hope you're not suggesting that Danny should start playing his 2,500 country and western selections over the Tannoy in Bamboozled!

I find that removing the earplugs stops things sounding dull... but agree that some music helps create a pleasant atmosphere at times. Equally, yesterday's few hours spent at the Surin Fishing Park, with little more that the sound of birds demonstrating their lack of depression, was the best 'music' of all. The Tremeloes had a point:

Not in my house. I have a 12-year-old daughter who is into everything Korean and Japanese. The 'boom-boom box' is on maximum volume and the rafters are rocking. Good music, hardly, but lots of pretty girls in shorts bouncing around the stage captured on the video. Does it keep me young at heart? Most definitely not! :tongueclosed::tongueclosed::tongueclosed:

Merlin- You mention "birdsong" & it s fanastic to hear them singing in my garden.
It was mentioned just recently that in Australia some birdsong music went to No/1 on the charts! Great.

By chance, I watched a few minutes of a UK tv programme yesterday in which two people were sitting in a British scene listening to 'The Dawn Chorus.' It was a lovely bit of TV, which reminded me of my father's reel-to-reel tape recording of the same back in the early 60's.

The Australian recording is worth listening to, but (for me) is trumped by the 2019 release of another UK recording: https://djmag.com/news/recorded-bird-song-debuts-uk-singles-chart. Enjoy!

Just as I had made up my mind to take the family out to this restaurant on my burthday, Thailand goes to Level 3 and bans the sale of booze in restaurants. Maybe the band will not be playing too. Luxury! Quiet nights in the soi again. :):):)

The band plays on. :) People still eat out without booze sales. Maybe BYOB? 555 The Watermelon and other fruit shakes are very good.
