Lining the sides of ponds to prevent erosion

We have two fish ponds among our rice fields, one 3M liters, one 1M liters. We mainly raise tilapia, but also koi. The koi in particular chew away at the banks and are gradually expanding the size of the outer edge. We bought koi from a farm that raises them, and they have lined the banks with 15-20cm rock to prevent this. Two questions: any suggestions about the most cost-effective way to line the banks to prevent this, preferably good looking and durable, and is is possible to directly buy double trailer loads of 15-20 cm rock to line the edges with if that is the best choice? We live near Rattanaburi, and there doesn’t seem to be local quarries of this kind of rock.

If it was my issue, i would line the banking with a butyl rubber liner and place rocks on the top lip......just my thoughts.
We have a 1 ria pond in the garden but only a few koi in it to keep our bankings clear

Thanks, mango 2 you 2. My main concern with butyl is UV degradation. I lived in Hawaii for ten years, and PVC pipe outside lasted only about 3 years, and we’re further south here. 1 rai is big! We only have 10 koi. Without water treatment, our lake water is not clear, due to typical clay clouding, so we don’t get to see the koi as much as we’d like. I’ve thought about putting them in a separate lined pond, but a small pond is vulnerable to overheating here, and we’re gone many months of the year, especially the hot months. We live 10 km from Rattanaburi. My wife thinks we should drain the pond occasionally, harvest all the fish, aexcept the koi, and refill. 1M liters is a lot to refill!1760676571384.jpeg

See if you can source second hand mine conveyor belt.

A butyl rubber liner can last 15 to 50+ years, with many manufacturers and experts citing an expected lifespan of 30-50 years due to its flexibility, durability, and resistance to UV radiation and weather. The exact lifespan depends on the quality, thickness, and installation of the liner.

Now here is the secret of what is not susceptible to UV radiation in the tropics. It is a very little known fact.
Well it is being black ! and actually how manufactures colour plastics and the like and Butyl rubber for that matter. It is not done with a costly fancy dye.
Which incidentally is what breaks down plastics by the UV. It is made black by adding carbon. Which is totally impervious to UV rays and very cheap.
Now you all know. Use this knowledge wisely.

A good idea for the koi pond section. Any local suppliers for large butyl rubber liner tarps, maybe 6 meters x 8 meters?

Surely to christ you should be able to source redundant rolls of 700-900 mm 4-6 ply conveyor rubber.
