New Government Hospital - Surin

There are three more in town that I know of and for personal reasons Ruamphat Hospital puts Surin hospital to shame.
I'm not interested in personal reasons to visit a hospital GL and I'm stuffed if I know the third hospital you mention.
My satisfaction level in both of the known hospitals has been going downhill for a few years now.

Surin Hospital, Ruampaet Hospital 312/1 Thetsaban 1 Rd this is the big private one, Ruamphat Hospital -Hospital
2 Tessaban 2 Rd by Surin Plaza and Fort Weeraw Tyothinarmy hospital directly across from the main gate. We can use any. My experience its your doctor that makes the difference. Surin Hopitsl and the BIG Private on dam near killed my wife uncle. A forum members sis-n-law we all know by his handle of Cent. recommend to my wife a doctor at Ruamphat Hospital -Hospital
2 Tessaban 2 Rd next to Surin Plaza after my wife uncle was rushed into this hospital and was seen but Cents sis n law doc in 4 hour he was in OR for emergency surgery. The BIG C. That hospital is also private and the bill was paid but by orders from this doctor he was placed back in the main Surin Government Hospital and yes he was aware of the problems he had had. Those problems disappeared. This same doctor at the same hospital diagnosed and did female surgery on my wife (successful). All doctors in Surin work ALL hospitals. Get a good doc and your OK, get a bad doc and your forked. Thinks to Mikes sis-n-law two lives were saved.

I have been to see Cent's doctor a few times and the last time I saw him, after not seeing him for about 2 years he seemed to have lost all interest in his patients including me. He appeared to be worn down or out. I blame it on the scores of Cambodians who are ruining the medical services here in Surin.

Surely the Doctor you see in any hospital is the one who specialises in your particular problem. A heart doctor is no good for cancer, whilst if you have kidney stones, you would not be seen by a cancer doctor

A GL says all or nerly all government doctors work in the private hospitals as well. Some private hospitals have their own in-house doctors, but they are usually little more than GP's who if required will refer you to a specialist (either for 1 hour at noon or in the evening since that is when they finished their government hospital duties)

Same applies in Buriram.

The wife has togo the Big Private Ruampaet Hospital 312/1 Thetsaban 1 Rd for medication as no government hospitals has it. It takes here on an average of 4 hours from start to finish because off all the Khmer.

That's my observation and understanding too. I have not been back to Ruemphet since they mishandled my bladder problem some 4 years ago. I turned up just after midday, waited to see the doctor, told him I could not and had not passed urine since the night before. The discomfort was getting very noticeable and painful. All the GP doctor could say was the Urologist had left at midday and I would have to wait until the following morning, 09.00, to see him. What a joke. Fortunately, my wife took me to A&E at the Government Hospital, I was admitted and within an hour the I had seen the doctor and nurse who inserted a catheter into my bladder to relieve the immediate problem. Unfortunately, it was also the turn of events that saw me being admitted to the Government Hospital to have an operation for cancer of the bladder. I have nothing but praise for the professionalism of the Head Urologist and his staff who undoubtedly saved my life. He carried out the operation and has overseen my treatment ever since. I have also had a second operation in the hospital, nearly one and a half years later, for a double umbilical hernia. Once again, the senior doctor and his staff did an excellent job.

As far as I am concerned, Surin Government Hospital has some very good doctors and surgeons on their staff and, with the new building, an excellent facility from which to practice their craft.

If the need arose I would give Surin Government Hospital ago...fortunately that need has not risen.

I haven't been to Rhumpet I hospital since they kept me in overnight because I had the shits. It was a disaster.

I haven't tried the others.

I have not returned to Buriram Private hospital since I had kidney stones. 2 Doctors attended me (both from the government hospital) but neither told me that the scan not only showed kidney stones but also fluid on the lung. This I found out when I got back home and was preparing the insurance claim. Result was 2 stents inserted in heart artery at Bangkok Hospital. Would/could Surin hospital have treated me within a reasonable time? Am I eligible to use Surin hospital as I live in Buriram province?

A Thai has to be referred by their government hospital. Example being for a Thai a local being treated in the Surin hospital was referred by them to the Buriram Hospital. It would seem that the same applies for us.

I expect so, to both questions. While I was having my second operation for the hernia some 2 to 3 years ago, they were building the new Regional Heart and Cancer Center in the hospital grounds. I am not sure GL is correct in what he says though I quite honestly do not know. As far as I can determine non-Thai patients are not restricted by where they live. You are a fare paying customer and will pay the full cost for your treatment. Cambodians are treated here so why not you? On my admissions, I filled in the forms and that was it. I do understand there may now be a new process as a friend said he has to get a registration card - something I do not have. As to how long you would have to wait, I guess it depends on the urgency of your case as determined by the doctor. My first visit to A&E was a very quick affair - about 15 minutes. From A&E to a bed on the ward almost immediately too. The second op for the hernia was also pretty quick. After being consulted by the senior doctor he determined my course of treatment. He wanted a MRI scan, ECG and blood tests. I seem to think these were completed within a couple of weeks, the MRI being the delay for the scan. As to the admission for the op that was mutually agreed between me and the doctor. He asked if I wanted to be admitted then and now and we said we wanted to go on holiday first. Nowadays, my follow up treatment is planned months in advance. When I turn up for the appointment 6 months later I am expected. All very smooth and efficient.

There not restricted but they have to be referred up the change to be covered and that's a fact. Also they're so called 30 baht medical will and does cover them out of area for emergency BUT as soon as their condition is stabilized they have to return to the area that they are registered in. I have been involved for both cases.
