"Only spend what you can really afford to lose"

Years ago I was told to "only spend what you can really afford to lose."

This maxim applied to gambling, falling in lust with women who accept money for services and as well when retiring or investing in most foreign locales such as Thailand.

I truthfully believe from what I have heard, read and seen that those words of advice have played itself out many times over in LOS.

How many honestly believe that those words don't matter ?
How many honestly believe that those words should be heeded ?

Were I to select "definitely yes," I couldn't spend another penny/cent/satang as it might be needed for unexpected medical expenses in the future... so it's a "sometimes yes," avoiding frivolous purchases but allowing for essentials. One man's essential is another man's frivolity of course!
