"That's a hell of a driveway to your batch that you've got there now, Poo Yai. How much did that cost ?"

Replied with a grin, "Nuthin'. Really nuthin'." :)

I was out drinking with him yesterday all afternoon. getting to know the (new) locals

That certainly is the best way to meet the old guards of the village realm.

Now to find the right nurse's aide to fit within your pension requirements.

Enjoy your new digs. :)

Thank you. Pension situation has all been sorted out now thankfully and I'm receiving them regularly now. On a very expensive health?/accident policy and wondering weather I should keep it going or save for health problems/end of life nursing???

IMHO "end of life" and mainly in particular 'daily nursing care' is an experience best not shared without a sincere caring friend or concerned family member(s) personally overseeing or providing the necessary care.

Hence in Thailand - choose wisely.

Health problems particularly those concerning heart and cancer can be very very expensive. Can easily cost 1 million baht or more. As long as your insurance covers such conditions I would advise you to keep up the payments

I, on the other hand, would suggest he undertakes a close analysis with a view to 'self-insuring'.

You Nick, are a special case and are paying premiums based on a 42 year old - @Ivor the Engine is not. Only he knows his date of birth, current premiums (plus expected rises/exclusions/age terminations), existing capital reserves - and even life expectancy. We don't have that information on which thedecision should be based. You also worked in the world of insurance and are 'insurance minded' - it is only natural that you are pro insurance.

You were smart enough to secure that insurance (unheard of in recent times) at a relatively young age and before any of your health conditions reared their ugly head. Few people are in that position (none now) and the premiums for over 60's are expensive - and, more importantly, can include numerous exclusions. (can you 'include' exclusions?....I guess so...).

Yorky was a self insurer and thankfully did not suffer long term medical costs. I have saved over 1 million Baht by not insuring during my 18 years here - and, yes, that is genuinely 'self-insured' and tucked away for emergencies. If I get to your age @Prakhonchai Nick I may decide to fritter my reserve away on wine, whiskey and women - if I am up to it! :grinning:
