Savannakhet Thai consolate now taking only online booked appointments

Take something easy and fairly pleasant and turn it into another pain in the ass, (check your Lao and Thai holidays before applying folks). I wonder who owns the consulate? In Boston, back when they could do the one year marriage and retirement visa, it was an American lawyer that had the consulate 'contract'. Was simple and easy and you could just rock up during opening hours and get it done in way less than an hour. And perfect English spoken and they took cash. Then off to lunch at one of the many great restaurants and pubs in the surrounding area, on foot I'll add. The good old days. :) I used to use that when in the states and the time on my visa for my return was running low, just so I could avoid having to do it in Thailand on my return and use the Immi offices there.

advice needed
Got a mate here in a 60 day Visa exception stamp and needs to get a 'proper' visa to then extend that to a year's visa in country. I know what to do here but asking if anyone knows the current process to get a tourist visa in Savanakhet as I haven't been there for about 13 years????

To get a Thai tourist visa in Savannakhet starting January 1, 2025, you must use the online e-Visa system at https://www.thaievisa.go.th/. While online applications are now mandatory, the visa fee must be paid in Thai Baht (cash) at the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Savannakhet. You will still need to provide documents like a passport, photos, and financial proof, and the processing time is about 10-15 working days after the fee is paid.

How do you extend a tourist visa for 1 year? I thought that was not possible.
Don't you need a non O. Or a DTV.
Marriage 400,000 proof of funds, Retirement 800,000 and DTV 500,000.

I needed to show 400,000 to get my Non O from Thai Embassy in Australia. Where arbitrary funds were fine in the past.
I purposely tested this to see what would happen. They asked if I could show 400000 Baht equal in an Australian bank. In the end I showed them my Thai bank account.
That was evisa.

Correct, as usual.

You cannot extend a visa; unless multiple entry (rare) a visa is ‘used’ the moment you enter the country.

Immigration officers (and agents) can give a Non-Imm O visa ‘in country’ (3 months single entry equivalent) - that gives time to get the financials in place before applying for a 12 months extension of stay during the last 30 days.

Only your ‘ permission to stay’ can be extended.

Dave meant to say ‘visa exemption’ in his post.
