Thailand doubles visa-on-arrival fee
The Nation August 18, 2016 2:48 pm

The Foreign Ministry has increased the fee of visa on arrival for travelers from 18 nations and from Taiwan.
The ministry's directive states that the fee of visa on arrival will be increased from Bt1,000 to Bt2,000, starting from September 27.

The ministry stated that the increase will make the fee of visa on arrival to the same level of visa fee at Thai embassies and consular offices.

Coinciding with Cambodia proposing to issue 3 year visas!

Starting next month, certain foreign visitors to Cambodia will be able to apply for multi-entry business and tourist visas lasting as long as three years, Tourism Minister Thong Khon said at a seminar yesterday.

Speaking at a Japanese-Cambodian tourism conference, Khon went on to bill the measure as an effort to “promote tourism growth”.

“The government has approved the new policy for multi-entry visas, which international tourists and investors can apply for at the airport for one, two or three years, and we will start to implement this on September 1,” Khon said.

However, Sok Veasna, an official with the Interior ministry’s General Department of Immigration, said that many of the details of the visas were yet to be sorted out.

“The multi-entry visa is being implemented from September 1 for international tourists and international businessmen, but the conditions of stay and payment fees will vary depending on the agreements between the government and each [other] country’s government,” Veasna said, adding that so far only Japan had finalised such an agreement, giving its citizens the option to apply for one-, two- and three-year visas.

China and South Korea are currently applying for the three-year option. Depending on the individual agreements, some visa holders may be required to leave the country at certain intervals, Veasna added.

Chhay Sivlin, of the Cambodia Association of Travel Agents, lauded the move as offering “convenience for tourists”.

“It is important for international tourists or businesspeople who are looking to come back again with their family or friends, or for meetings with business partners,” she said.

What they should 'double' is the amount of time a VOA lets you stay in country where you will spend your money as a tourist. Total f**kwits without a clue.

"Chhay Sivlin, of the Cambodia Association of Travel Agents, lauded the move as offering “convenience for tourists”."

A convenience that Thai authorities seem to disregard. For them it is all about how much money can they easily bring in to shore up their failing economy. No consideration or care about the tourists and how to gain more tourism in a slack time. But then, according to the manipulated TOT numbers, the tourism just keeps increasing, no matter what happens in the country that would scare tourists away. Surrounding countries will eventually drain away a lot of the tourists coming here as their infrastructure gets better and better, their visas and retirement options look increasingly a better option, and their governments become more stable. Cambodia, Myanmar, Laos, etc.

But then, according to the manipulated TOT numbers, the tourism just keeps increasing, no matter what happens in the country that would scare tourists away.

You see the propaganda of extreme numbers and ques of tourists. If I was a tourist I would go somewhere else. They are not smart enough to work that out.
The same propaganda is marched out over the economy. There was an article in the Bangkok post that stated "The economy is going so well, not even bombs can dent the Baht"
We all know the Baht is artificially propped up by the bank of Thailand. With foreign investment dwindling there is going to be an old mother Hubbard scenario acted out in the near future.

I have been thinking that for years, Rice.
The only thing surprising is that it hasn't already happened
