Some years ago, I knew a boy in Chiangrai, not quite so young (about 20), who ran English classes for the children in his village.
I went to meet them once, and it was quite an experience. I told them about myself in rather horrible Thai, then they asked questions in English.... many questions! They were lovely kids.
Sadly, the last time I saw the 'teacher' was when I sat beside his deathbed in Chiangrai hospital..... a victim of HIV.
