Tryed to open bank account

Went to the bank yesterday trying to open bank account, and failed, they have 4 requirements
Passport
Visa for long stay
Driver Licence
And a yellow Book ( guess for a house)

Didn't have the last, worked on getting noted at the local Amphoe, but also failed.
Needed a declaration from Immigration, that we picked up for 500 Bath
and Birth Certificate ( wich I have to order from Denmark - it's rather antiquated and not in use anymore in DK)
So will try again later to get into the book, and then try the Bank again
Problem is, our book is black, not yellow, so might be a problem also

The yellow book is a house registration book. A Farang (if allowed to be included) gets a blue one.

That requirement should be unnecessary - which bank?

I opened an account with Bangkok Bank with my passport + condo rental agreement. At Kasikorn bank I needed a COR from immigration.

I call bullshit on the house registration request and suggest that you call the help centre number, for that bank, and ssk them what you need to provide.......then take what you are told to take and get the bank to call HQ if they wish .

I have NEVER heard of a yellow book being required by a bank.

Which bank was that you went too. They are all different in requirements. Drivers License ? Not everybody drives for a start.

You are a little confused about what a Yellow book is. The Black (well it is dark blue) is for House registration of Thai citizens that live in that house and foreigners are issued a separate Yellow book for the house.
Getting a Yellow book is a flip of the coin. The range of Amphur rules goes from just yeah here you go to utterly impossible. Like mine.
They want my parents birth certificates and a declaration written in Thai of undying love for my partner. I jest you not.
They actually showed me what one other farang had done. Believe me it is not worth it. Glad I got my bank account 30 Years ago!

The yellow book can be substituted by a certificate of residence from Immigration bye the way.

Every bank branch every Immigration office and every local government office (Amphur) have different rules you have to align the holes in the Swiss cheese to be successful. Good luck.

My apologies for adding to the confusion....of course, blue for the Thai owners and yellow for the Farang.

Since getting married in December I may try for a yellow book with the Prakhonchai amphur; the last Nai Amphur was anti-Farang and refused to even consider a registration for a Farang if they were not married. I hope he has moved on....then I might get a silly pink card...

Bangkok Bank and Siam Comm.

Bangkok bank has certainly had it's nuts squeezed by the Bank of Thailand - after their involvement with 'agent arranged extensions'. They have become ultra strict in their requirements. I got in with them before that hiatus with just my condo agreement (for address verification) and passport (for Immigration status).....they did call me a year later having picked up the expiry date of my contract and I had to take in the new one.

Our books are black, just to make it more interesting

Im in a similar situation ( got remarried a few months before you) and mentioned in Aumphur about yellow book and they said can do, but not easy. Had to take PY Baan & S.I.L. with us again, appartently.

When I was able to open a Thai bank account in 2005 with Bangkok Bank, showed them my passport and my money and they said NO problem. ;;money;; ;;money;; ;;money;; ;;money;;

A post today from ASEAN NOW, as an example..

"So this morning went to Kasikorn Bank Udon Thani branch and opened an account.

I had to have a Non O visa along with proof of my Thai address and proof of my U.K address.

I used my Thai driving licence for my Thai address and my U.K licence for my U.K address.

It took about 30 or more minutes for all the forms to be filled out on a tablet and photo copies etc but was easy enough if you have all the right documents and address proof."

What about parents birth certificates and letter of dedication of undying love?

I am not about to go and search for my dead parents birth certificates. And for that matter I think my father never had one in the first place.
Something to do with WWII. I won't go into.

For anybody reading this you do know that a Yellow house book is only good for not having to go to Immigration to get a certificate of residency.
So far I only know one thing it is good for. When you renew your drivers licence you can use a Yellow Tabian Baan instead of getting a certificate of residence from Immigration. So if the information is correct there is now two reasons. Used to open a bank account.
I am resolute now of never getting a Yellow house book. OH ... and a pink ID card. That is only good in the province you live. As @gotlost rightly found out once.
