World's tallest man dies in Surin

Chinese woman dies during thrill ride in Chiang Mai
A man who once stood 269 centimetres tall and was thought to be the world's tallest person has died at his home in Surin province at the age of 26.
His mother, Mrs Wern, said her son Pornchai Saosri died at 10.05am on Monday at their house in Ban Takaeo village in Prasat district.
Pornchai, who had suffered from many illnesses related to his unusual growth and hypertension had been treated in Prasat Hospital for eight days before being released recently and taken back home.
He was bedridden and being cared for by his father Saran, 60, Mrs Wern, 56, and their 15-year-old granddaughter.
No plans had yet been made for his funeral, she said.
Mr Wern said after Pornchai's illness and his unusual growth was reported by the media, people from across the country had sent money to a bank account opened for donations and she had received a total of 110,000 baht.
She said she spent part of the money to redeem her house, which she had mortgated for money to pay for Pornchai's medical care and other necessities before his death.
Mrs Wern said she had about 50,000 baht left in the bank account and it would be used for Pornchai's funeral.
