Ok so my driving license ran out by a few days so I went to get a new one .
At the driving license desk in the Government transport office Surin the woman tells me i need a letter off the Immigration and a letter of health off a clinic or doctor .So i drove to Surin Immigration (Kap-Chung)I needed two photos 2 inch size ,they said go next door first and they printed a few pages from my passport and made a file . They then gave me 1 piece of paper with a code number on it .
They told my wife she had not reported that i live in her house , they said no problem we wont fine you this time but next time we will ,he was vert nice. so i asked how does she do this ,on line he said ,how i said she does not use computers . I then gave him my phone and said please show me .He googled Imagination and found a link i would never of guessed what it was ,it opened and asked for my password ,i said I dont have a password ,he said it will come be Email now we have your Email address , he said add this code number ,I said ok thanks .Well 1 week has passed and no Email off them at all.I asked him if the Email does not come what shall we do ,he said your wife must come here .So it seems we will have to travel to the Immigration once i come back in from Savanaket in a few months. Anyway back to the license office shown them my two letters that cost me 300 B each off immigration and a letter of the clinic , then i had a small test that was a joke colors and break test 3 mins to complete ,then i had to watch a movie about learning to drive that was funny .Then they took my photo I gave them about 600 b ish for two licenses 1 bike 1 car ... So there we go chaps ...

Was this a 5 year license that expired? I did not have to get a doctor's letter of health. Going from a 5 year license to another 5 year license.

The man we dealt with, a younger Immi cop, opened the link on my wife's phone, got us a Username and Password (both the same). Then brought us to the area where you could change your password and let me change it so I could remember. Showed my wife how to use it. She took a picture of the Square thingie on the wall as well (IR or something), and showed her how it worked. Gave her a phone number she could call if having problems. Wrote down the Username for us as well. He was very helpful. I have heard others just doing this on their own have had to wait 5 or 6 weeks just to get their Username and Password to even begin to sort it out and use it.

I'll see on our return from Savannakhet next weekend if she can figure it out and use it to report 'my return'.

I also told my wife any fines will come out of her monthly 'allowance'. That got me 'the look' and a whine. Hey honey, it still comes out of my pocket. LOL Get it right and make sure you understand what he is telling you so you can use it. She seemed quite studious and asked him a lot of questions and seemed to understand by the time he was finished schooling her on it after told this. I imagine she will just have look sow do it for her. She's not much for computers either, Al. Video games on the phone and text etc. But no computer whiz by any standard. :)

Does the TM30 have to be completed on-line now? Can it not be done in person at Surin Immigration?

I was at Immigration one week ago and no one mentioned to me or my wife abouit the TM30 or TM28. No one told us to go next door, where we have been before, to get my wife logged into the system. I will be there again in 83 days time for my next 90 day report and to extend my permission to stay for a further year. I think I will ask my wife to visit the section next door and get signed up for the online reporting for the TM30 during the next visit.

I do believe that square thingie on the wall is called a 3 dimensional bar code.

It's interesting that Thai Immigration is recommending the use of Internet Explorer versions 8 - 11, or Chrome, to access the reporting system. Microsoft Edge susperceded Internet Explorer with the introduction of Windows 10. However, Internet Explorer is no longer developed but is is still supported and avalable within Windows 10.

For many years now everyone business operation has taken it for granted that the whole population uses a computer/smart phone with internet and can do all tasks required of them. That was not the case some 7/8 years ago when I registered a complaint, and is not the case today. Whilst most of the youngsters here in Thailand and probably world wide have smart phones internet connections and spend nearly all day on FB and twitter, it is a completely different matter when it comes to actually doing something. And there are thousands of people , especially in rural Thai villages who have neither a computer nor smart phone.

WHY? Are you considering trading in your vintage TM6 for a new one?:D

Not really surprising/Thai Immigration are still living in the last century!

Yes, it CAN be done at Immigration within the time period required on your return home. But having to travel back and forth just to report is ridiculous. Using the website should be, I said SHOULD BE, simple and easy and requires nothing but a way to get online.

I am pleased that I am unlikely to have to deal with this for a couple of years.

If I go for a Non-Imm 'O-A' visa next year I will not have to deal with local immigration for over 2 and half years.

My extension runs out next June and I will not be here to attend to that.... so it will expire. My travels until then mean I have no need to do any 90 day reports - so I have no need to go to Buriram Immigration. Bollocks to any more TM30's - the last thing we were told was "you report TM30 already, no need to do again".

It’s called a QR code, or in full, a quick response code.

Bar codes are one dimensional, and these QR codes are two dimensional. Used a lot as a scannable link to websites, but also used internally in industry to access stock location etc.

No, but I may fancy an overnight trip to Korat or the seaside in October, if the pound sees significant gains.

A QR code is a two dimensional bar code. From Google:

QR code (abbreviated from Quick Response Code) is the trademark for a type of matrix barcode (or two-dimensional barcode) first designed in 1994 for the automotive industry in Japan.
