Desktop Internet Banking

Bangkok Bank has announced that they will terminate their internet banking service, Bualuang iBanking, on December 15. Not to worry, they say. You can just get our phone app.

I don't want to. I prefer to do my online financial matters on the desktop, with the big screen and the real keyboard. Phone apps make me feel like I'm peeking through a keyhole.

Is this a contagion spreading through the Thai banks, or do others still let you bank online on your desktop?

Krung Thai (KTB) got rid of their desk top banking 5 years ago. Phone Apps are more secure so they will all go that way. I do commiserate with you though.
Trying to book hotels and air travel on your phone is horrendous. Stupid so and so's. When the King mother died they removed all the coloration that makes it easier to navigate from the App to Black and white. I am sure they are all insane.

I have used a phone app here for my day to day needs here for quite a long time.
All my other banking is done in Australia via desk top banking or direct contact with customer service. SO FAR, no problems

I have used BB Internet banking on my desktop for many years.
I loaded the App on my phone to try and register.
The fact that i have to use my phone was bad enough with my hand tremors but then they needed a face picture without my specs followed by a series of facial movements without my specs and without my glasses I could not read the instructions on the screen.

Yes it is ridiculous. Take of your glasses and read the instructions and get the picture just right. OH MY GOD.
Yes I have felt your pain many times. :rage:

I got heaps of grief from my bank over this, my facial recognission photo. Ok, I got it done, tried to use it once
and failed miserably. Ok, F*ck it, no more harrasment from my bank and I don't need it anyway ;;victory;; ;;victory;;

Have faith in yourself young man.
The one thing I didn't mention was, having a photo ID app was designed to allow you to transferee ฿100,000 per transfer, nope, doesn't work.
Back to square 1, as long as your transfer is under ฿50,000 per time, no problems, you can transfer as many times up to your daily limit.
Another highly thought out Thai initiative. :) :) :)

I am with you on internet banking service, Bualuang iBanking.

Dislike, forcing individuals to use their silly baby phone tool to conduct business when a simple computers has so much more power.
Convenience ?
Witnessing dumbing down of Thai citizens, expats and Etc., just like they're doing in the US and probably all over the world.

Carrying a phone is like having a beacon announcing where you are and your activities even if you turn off your location.

Don't take your phone to the Rose Queen , Meta,Google, Oracle and Etc, will start sending you advertisements for similar establishments.

Control control control !

Having been a victim of online fraud I am all in favour of apps, especially those that require biometric approval.

Biometric approva, yes, needed now with everything online soon to be your DNA for identity purposes. ha ha
Question , did fraud originate from a cell phone app or from your computer website or app ?

If I remember correctly, I believe you said you were using Wise .

Sorry for your loss !!!
Nobody died and he got his money back. What @CO-CO lost was his confidence in the whole system as it did to me.
I have to go back to Australia and sign the specific form in front of them for that.

I think that is the important point for me; I lost confidence in a system that I had (pretty much) total faith in.

Having worked in the finance industry I knew that it was an ongoing battle to keep ahead of the fraudsters. A constant fight and criminals have become so much more sophisticated.

What you don't want, when you reach your 70's, is money suddenly hacked from your life savings - the film The Beekeeper shows what can happen when the 'vulnerable' are preyed upon by scammers.

It also spawns mistrust of everything, especially in those of us in advancing years.

Does Kasikorn still having online banking accessible from a desktop computer?

BTW, financial accounts should always have security more advanced than the old user ID and password. Two-factor authentication, passkeys, etc.

Yes........My phone is a passkey for the purposes of signing in.

When I go to sign in online I am presented with a bar code to scan - and I have to open the APP to do that.
