Convert Single Entry Non-O Marriage Visa to Multiple Entry

Before the last shake up of the visa system, i used to make a short trip to Laos every year to apply for a new 1-year Multiple Entry Non-O Marriage Visa.

I did this as it was quick, simple and did not involve too much interaction with the Government Authorities.

When they changed the system to were you need make an appointment at the office, as opposed to just turning up before 10am, i made an appointment and turned up with the same documents i had provided for many years.
However, on this occasion when i requested a Multiple Entry Visa I was advised they now could only issue me a single entry.

I refused this as i am in and out frequently and went about a different process to gain my visa.

I was wondering however, if i went to Laos and came back in on a single entry Non-O visa, could i go straight to immigration in Surin and apply to have that changed to a multiple entry visa ?

Has anyone done this, or know if it is possible ?

Surely you can't change a visa. You can extend permission to stay off the back of that visa.

I will return in July on the same 90 day single entry Non Imm O, based on marriage. After 2 months I will apply to extend my permission to stay for 12 months.. I will show 400k in the bank. I will purchase a multiple reentry permit. 12 months later I will apply for another 12 month extension and show 12 x 40k Baht pm transfers.

Anything is possible with a big enough brown envelope. All depends how much you are willing to stuff in there. I understand brown envelopes now start at 25K.:grinning:

A suitcase full of cash would not enable the expiry date of a visa to be changed................

Careful with those brown envelopes now a days, as more and more transactions with official are going electronic, it's more difficult to hide, and apparently Gov. is determined to crack down on any kind of illegal stuff..........JS

Where there is a will, there is a way.

In the case of Immigration I would pretty much guarantee that income from 'bribes' is substantially greater than individual salaries..........I have seen plastic carrier bags full of cash passing over the counter in Jomtien. I heard of a Farang visa agent (much smaller than the Thai agencies) paying 20m Baht in brown envelopes in 2024.

Rob, the "normal process" is to enter on a single entry Non-Imm O visa which gets you stamped in for 90 days. (Usually) in the last month you apply to extend the permission to stay for 12 months - showing the required financials (fee 1,900 Baht) . A multiple re-entry permit (3,800 Baht) is required to cover your travel requirements.
