If your married you can get a one time 60 day extension for 1900 baht with proper paper work. You can only get a 7 day extension on your present 30 day visa exempt stamp if you have an outward airline ticket. If your wanting a 60 day tourist visa that can be extended for 30 days you need to go to Savannakhet Lao to the Thai Consulate. http://www.hopes are a.com/visarun/. Your in Sangkha so your immigration office is in Kap Choeng that's where all your visa extension will be done and border and border hopes are done at the Chong Chom crossing. I live in Kap Choeng just down from immigration and have the M&D C0ffee Shop. Fell free to contact me for further info.

I know of someone who was refused a 60 day extension on a "visa exempt stamp" in Kap Cheong about 3 weeks ago. Paperwork was good but the officer just said that it can't be done on that kind of stamp.

I was somewhat surprised.

You can never get a 60 day extension on a 30 day visa exempt except if your married.

Sorry for not making myself clear. The person in question is married. He went with all paper work and his wife.

Immigration told him he cannot do it on a Visa exempt stamp.

Cheers for all the help guys.

nah not married here in thailand yet. looks like Savannakhet is the best option. just took a look at the Savan Vegas site seems pretty straight forward.

will take about 1-2 days for visa i'm assuming?

...or enjoy the life in Laos for 30 (or 31 just to play safe) days and come back to Thai for a new tourist visa !

You do not get a tourist visa in Thailand. You have to get it in Lao or another country. If you enter by land you get a 15 day visa exempt entry.

am i incorrect, GL ?
if you have not been in Thailand for more than 30 days -
can you not receive a 30-day 'tourist visa' when you re-enter
Thailand though Immigration such as Suvarnabhummi Intl AirportFlying2
or through to a border crossing with an Immigration Office ?

as i do not want to initiate any confusion and only provide
exact (correct) information - please clarify for my (and others)
complete understanding. thanking you in advance, dear GL. Thanks3

Don't confuse the op, just go to Savannkhet and get a single entry Tourist Visa.

<LI class=text>TOURIST VISA

Requirements are: Completed application form, here 2x colour passport size (4x6cm) photos and Visa application fee as below.
  • Single Entry (60 days) - Fee 1,000 THB
And extend it at the end of the 60 Days for 1900 Bhat for a further 30 Days, at KC imigration ,if you want to stay longer with your Telak.Gift3

It is not a tourist visa, Its a visa exempt stamp. if you arrive by air its good for 30 days and if you arrive by land its good for 15 days. There are some minor exception for certain nationalities but we are NOT included.

Now - that is clarification.
Thank you GL, Sangka and Stevo.

As a 'tourist' I had never entered through a border crossing by road conveyance.
I only entered via airport so I did not have a clue...{just call me 'clueless', Forrest"}.

I was more knowledgeable when it came to re-upping 'Non-Imm B' visa in the past and now a bit more regarding making the 'Retirement' Visa.

Thank you again , kind sirs.

sorry again , as i had to bring my passport to the station it is in front of me.

Stamped in red letter within a purple border with purple wording is:
"NON-IMM One Multiple" and in Category "NON-RE".
The words "Immigration Thailand Re-Entry Permit" are in purple.
Technically and precisely , that would be the correct lingo.

Across the page from "NON-IMM" is stamped the word "RETIREMENT" in red letters which probably referred to my Application for Visa.

Just clarifying why I say I'm on a retirement visa.

You can put the whip down please. Thank you.

I guess GL is talking about terminology. If you are here with permission to stay from an Immigration department within Thailand then you are on an "extension of stay based on retirement."

A visa is only issued outside of Thailand.

Only terminology.
