House and Contants Insurance

We currently have insurance for our wooden house, but did not add contents insurance as it seemed quite costly (and Thais do not steal things). The detached "Thai kitchen" is not included.

Do others have similar insurance arrangements and/or experiences with claims?

Nick is your man and I am sure he will respond shortly. Apart from arranging insurance he has the personal experience of his daughter being burgled recently.

As I understand it, moveable electronic items + jewellery/money are not covered anyway.

We tried that with Kasikorn Bank. About 3 months after we had arranged an alternative company, they phoned Lek to say they wanted to come to see the house.

Prakhonchai Expat Services (shortly to be re-named) have provided home insurance for a number of SF members.

A wooden house obviously costs more for fire insurance due to it's combustibility.

Burglary Insurance in Thailand is always a problem as all insurers exclude theft of money, jewellery, gold, and all portable electronic items (mobile telephones, tablets, notebooks cameras etc. What is covered is basically furniture, and there is probably little chance of that being stolen unless one lives in a remote area. However, any damage done to doors/windows or furniture during a burglary is covered.

It IS possible to insure the jewellery and portable electronic equipment for burglary, but everything needs to be specified, and have a value attached -AND the insurance if granted is expensive.

Can offer you a quote Bill if required. Please PM me
