I know guys here who came over and stayed that were in their mid 20s. Now in their mid 40s approaching 50 they have paid barely anything into the US Social Security system. FICA. They will get squat if they needed to return to the states. 'Social system'? 5555555 There is no social system in the states. This is why you see/have so many homeless people living on the streets and eating out of dumpsters. That's our 'social system' in a nutshell.

Exactly.
Even at the very earliest of age we are taught lessons about preparing oneself for hard (economic) times and for the future ...ie: the grasshopper and the ant, the rabbit and the turtle.

They came over at a young age and did exactly what to put away for their future...other than experience the stress-free lifestyle (or hedonism).

"They have barely paid anything into the U.S. Social [Security] system."
That was their choice to choose...so seriously WTF if they didn't want to pick it up a notch to invest for their future.
Possibly they laughed off living to 60 as a joke.

Sadly we know a few whether here and elsewhere. 'Cry me a river.'
 
Yes, I too know one or two living in Surin who pay nothing towards their UK State pension. Okay, the State pension is not a lot but it does provide a basic safety net if you have nothing else. I think it is rather short sighted not to pay the Class 3 Contribution (a modest amount) to preserve this pension and entitlement to health care should one ever return to the UK in later life.
