Mango tree

Surin Dinosaur
Two days ago one mango tree is so loaded with Mangos that a 5 inch limb snapped off. I went out with chainsaw to cut up this 12 ft long limb. It was full of red ants and need I say I was cautious with it. I got a rake and as I cut part, I used the rake to drag it away, worked one by one then they got me, all over me, biting me everywhere through my clothes and socks, up my leg got my balls and all. I fought them for the rest of the cutting. Today I went to the burn pile and the limbs were still full of red ants. Well the limbs did not burn much but the Ants did....

Have great respect for that type of ants, they are fierce

My wife says if you take the ants from the tree, the tree will start getting that nasty white stuff.
The Red Ants control aphids and mealy bugs that make that white goo. Red ant eggs and the ants them selves are put in soup.
Red ant nests are actually a sign of a healthy garden. But wow they are nasty.
We have them in the NT but they are of a different variety and are green. They don't taste the same. Indigenous folk make a tea for different ailments.
But in every other respect they act the same. Don't they @FERRET ?

Damn right, running into a green ant nest is painful.
