Scheduling with WISE

IS THIS TRUE, OR OLD INFORMATION ???

As a matter of curiosity, googled BANK'S you can have your SSA directly deposited in.

Bangkok Bank
Bangkok Bank is the only bank in Thailand that offers direct deposit services for US government payments. You can apply for the service in person at any Bangkok Bank branch, except for micro branches. You can also ask the relevant US government agency to route your payments into your Bangkok Bank account via the bank's New York branch.

Did you have a question?

Yes, this was a question, is anybody else having their SSA deposited into a bank in Thailand other than BBK or have knowledge that it is possible ?

I can't answer that, but I can confirm that the UK equivalent (state pension from DWP) can be paid direct into your WISE account.

So .....yes, it is physically possible - up the SSA administrators whether they will or not.

It's the First and I tried to move some money. Weird that today it takes a week and last week when I tested it, it only took a few moments. Oh well.

I can schedule payments from my Wise account to my Thai bank in a fixed Thai Bhat amount (65,000 B for example). But I would need to keep the Wise account topped up manually.
-and-
I can schedule payment using Wise to move/convert my US Bank, but in fixed US$ ($2,000 for example). Meaning the amount received in Thai Bhat varies. (with the possibility that it be too little should the rate fall out of my favor.)

At this point I'd like to schedule payments to fund my Wise account (US$ to US$) keeping a buffer of around $500 to account for fluctuations, but don't see a way to 'schedule' funding. Am I missing something? -or- is that something I would need to set up to push from my US Bank?

I would hazard a very strong guess that in the same way that funds are transferred into your US bank, your providers would accept instructions from you to make the transfers into your Wise account instead. The drawback in that would only be that the amount remaining in your US bank account might be lower that you want - unless you monitor and adjust the balance manually.

I've considered that, but I have a lot of bits and dribs, and they have resisted my attempts to consolidate. No one, or two are enough to fund my visa at this point.

Today was my first for Visa Transfer. Let me see how I like Wise first, then I'll start moving things over.

For now, I'm focusing on funding the Wise Account from my US Bank.

Sounds exactly like what I am wanting to do. Unfortunately, when I attempt to set up a scheduled transfer it comes up with a disclaimer that (exact quote not in front of me) 'scheduled transfers can only come from the WISE account' and greys out any other options.

Let me attempt one manually (ACH) and see if anything opens up for me.

Should that fail, yes, I'd love to hear details how to set this up, either here, or via DM. Thank you.

I just successfully renewed my annual retirement visa via ‘65,000 THB every month’ provision rather than 800,000 THB on deposit. In the process, got an authoritative answer from Wise to an important Thai requirement: that you get the transfer EVERY month, same day or close. Wise does in fact explain this if you read their FAQ. When you schedule a periodic payment, if the money to fund is automatically withdrawn from your bank via ACH, the ‘scheduled transfer date’ is a misnomer. In the ACH case, it refers to when the money will be withdrawn from your account. The delivery date is actually 3-5 days later, due to the slowness of American ACH processing. If instead, you fund it from money already in your Wise USD account, the transmission is on the scheduled day, reliably. So next year, I have scheduled the transfer, funded from my USD account. They don’t care if it’s there ahead of time, but if you don’t send that over in time, the transfer will fail. Unfortunately, they don’t have a way to schedule an automatic transfer by ACH monthly to your USD account (to my knowledge, anyway), so you need to remember to do that. I will just send $2,000 USD a week early, and adjust the amount occasionally if the exchange rate is favorable leaving some $$ left. You also need to get a 12 month statement from your Thai bank the same day you renew your visa, and highlight for them the 12 65,000 THB transfers. They want to see your original Social Security 1099 statement for the previous year, so bring it, as well as a passport photo, your yellow residence book, passport and your wife’s yellow book too. They reluctantly accepted photocopies of the SS 1099 and my wife’s yellow book. They want you to bring a photocopy of the signature page of your passport, but will do it for you for a fee (as well as the passport size photo if needed)

I was planning something like: transfer to Wise on the 1st, and fund my Thai visa on the 15th (with a $500 or so buffer in my Wise for slop [i.e. rate changes]).

Wise to my Thai bank seems to work seamlessly. My issue is that I can't figure out how to automate US Bank to Wise account monthly, at least with Wise pulling the monies. I'm looking into how to push it from my US bank, which, as good/helpful as this forum is, is not likely to be of much help. Additionally, I'm being frustrated as my US Bank sees the Thai IP and keep locking my account.

When/if I get the US Bank to Wise automated transfers straightened out and working for a while I'll post results.

I want it running for a year before I try to change from 800,000B deposit to 65,000B monthly. Looks like they require the same info for the monthly as the deposit method, but I'll make a note for when the time comes.

Yes, you do need a full year on record (the year before renewing your visa) to be accepted. My wife was very worried about drawing down the account below 800,000Thb, but immigration accepted it without problems.

I can "push" from my UK account to WISE by monthly standing order - because the WISE account has a conventional sort code and account number.

I imagine it would be the same in the US.

As I mentioned earlier, I push to Wise from a US bank account. I haven't used their "pull" method in years. You just need to get Wise to give you the routing and account numbers, and then you set up a transfer like you would between your accounts at any two US banks.

The answer to your IP problem is a virtual private network (VPN) so that your bank "sees" the IP of the US-based server of your VPN provider rather than your real IP. Maybe we should have another thread on that?
