Very True, especially with Immigration. In Thailand corruption is only wrong if you don't benefit from it.

Very True, especially with Immigration.
"Why would 17,000 people compete for a job paying 8,600 baht a month?"Funny you would mention that as Natty prepares for the immigration police entrance exam.
The exam is 150 multiple choice questions. The questions cover 6 categories including immigration rules, English, Algebra?, the history of ASEAN, Thai customs and beliefs. Applicants must score a minimum of 60% in each subject.
The highest scores on the exam move forward to the physical and mental evaluation.
The ability to do Algebra is as important to immigration as the ability to speak English. When two or more have matching scores, those with a parent on the force receives priority, the second tie-breaker is the TOEIC score. Nepotism is more important than ability.
To keep rural applicants from soiling the force applicants must report to the Police headquarters to hand in hard copies of their diplomas etc with less than 48 hours notice. The same notice will be given for the physical and mental evaluations. 4 separate trips to BKK are required. No discount airline tickets for you!
Application for the 350 posts have closed with a little over 17,000 received. The enlistment is for corporals not commissioned officers. The starting pay is 8,600 baht a month and the salary doubles every 7 years.
Why would 17,000 people compete for a job paying 8,600 baht a month? Perhaps there is more than meets the eye.
On a positive note the Immi bureau hires women. 7% of the police force is female, of the 320 hires last year over 80% were female.
The process is unnecessarily expensive to enter to the point that in order to write the exam, you must wear navy or black sweat pants, white or black running shoes and a white t shirt. Solid colours only, no visible name brands.

Government gig? Better healthcare for self and family members, better pensions? Gov credit union loans for cars and housing? Same for teachers and police jobs I suspect?![]()
And the payments are automatically subtracted from their paychecks. I've known teachers that barely had enough for food after the payments were taken out. Many did after school and weekend classes teaching to get extra income. Usually they have bought new homes and new cars and trucks with the loans.90% of the civil service owe their credit unions over a million baht.
It's a debt trap just like China offers third world countries.

Face. They want brand new. Not previously owned for less money. New cars and new homes are all costing nearly 1 million baht.
More bad & bad newsThe bad new is that Peter at Hong Kong Garden has suffered a stroke, so whilst now out of hospital, it seems unlikely that Hong Kong Garden will reopen anytime soon or if at all.
The good news is Leo's is opening a new Bar called 'The Londoner" on the ring road, not far from Dyna Steak house
Damn. A good guy and a nice restaurant. My condolences. So sorry to hear about Brian's passing. RIP and sincerest condolences to Aew.

Seriously.Love him or hate him Thaksin , is soley responsible for creating the dairy/cattle industry and OTOP both a huge success.
There is not any PM before or after that has created anything new. In that way he is unique his poverty alleviation methods worked as well as they are still being used.
Now tell me why do people love this rogue?.
555 I seriously doubt that! Like "ALL" Thai elites they just love power and money. Thaksin just obtained it in a novel way.Seriously.
Perhaps he really loves his country and the people.
Sorry Rice.555 I seriously doubt that! Like "ALL" Thai elites they just love power and money. Thaksin just obtained it in a novel way.
See if you can find Thaksins name on any list of Thai philanthropists. You won't. That's how much he loves the Thai
