If one vehicle (the Toyota Vigo) was traveling westbound from Sisaket towards BKK and was found after the collision to be on Hwy 24 facing eastbound towards Sisaket with its engine block on the shoulder then simply and unfortunately this was a high-impact front collision where in most likelihood the Vigo had crossed into oncoming eastbound traffic during inclement weather ('heavy rain').

Major arterial two-lane highways without centre barriers can not stop these type of accidents. RIP.

Be careful as the holidays are fast approaching.

Lost 2 teenage brothers (15 and 17) in our area on Thursday evening.

Grandma sent them on their motorbike to get a few thousand from the ATM near our village so that she had money for the younger boy's school lunch the next day. On the return journey they smashed into the rear of an unlit (but mobile) semi-trailer carrying one of those rice cutting machines. When they were slow to return, caring Grandma phoned to see if they were OK. An onlooker answered the call and suggested the family come to our village immediately. Another ambulance was then called for grandma (aged 71) to take her to the hospital suffering shock.

The boys' father is the local 'bus' driver, well-known to the Gorgeous Lek. His wife and their 3rd child had both died in childbirth, making this accident all the more devastating. Lek returned to the house with the father, covered in blood from his hugging her after hugging the bodies of his sons. Apparently, she offered him a cup of tea to calm him and he accepted a large Leo instead. He doesn't drink alcohol, but downed it all in a few minutes, before the police followed to take him to Surin for the formalities.

Too many of these sad events on the roads. Will it ever stop?

Not until the goverment got really serious about the issue. The caveliar attitude of motorcycle riders and car drivers, that think they have the driving skills of a racetrack driver. Not understanding the basic physics of a moving object and it forces is truly terrifying. If they understood the dangers maybe they would be less cavalier.
The unnecessary risks taken by these drivers still astonish me after all these years.

RIP. I remember a billboard a couple years back here. It said in Thai. If you insist on driving like an idiot, can you at least book your coffin in advance.

The first of 5 right-angle (or more) bends on the way from Surin city to our house used to have a stack of coffins available in front of the corner house, ready for those who were keen to kill themselves or, worse, somebody else. The corner was widened and is now much safer and the coffins are gone - all due to preparations for a visit to the Silk Village by a member of the Thai Royal Family.

A friend of a friend (Chinese) runs one of a few emergency response centres here in SSK. He says that an average of 15 road deaths are dealt with by his staff every week and he's not the only one locally.

For the amount of criticism these guys get. I believe they do a very good service to the community.

Mate, that is terrible. I know how easily it can happen, nearly run into the back of one myself...bugger all lights, just a half hearted orange rotating light on the trailer covered in crap that couldn't be seen easily.
