Six Digit PINs Coming?

Kasikorn and Bangkok bank have been issuing 6 digit PINS for new account ATM cards, and renewals for about a year now.. Maybe, and most probably, the other banks too.

Bangkok Bank issued me with a new card.
It was fine till I used it in stores and found some wouldnt accept it and some eg Global charged me a fee for using it.
I went back to the bank and they gave me back the old 4 digit pin type but warned me I would have to change to the new type next year

I guess I must have missed out then. My account with Kasikorn is 17 years old.
Same as me , once the card needs changing they will give you a 6 didget card .
17 years one would of thought it would be worn out by now [emoji39]

The advent of 6 digit PIN will be just in time for the demise of the cards themselves with the advent of QR scan tech that will be on everyone's smart phone .
This is part of the over arching strategy of Thailand 4.0 initiative. Some Surin business's will be dragged screaming and kicking into the 21 century. I can't wait for my favourite cash only business to be forced into non cash transactions. Surin Kubota.

I have another 6 years before my 4-digit card has to be changed. Enjoy the simple life while you still can.

I replaced my expired Krungsri (yellow) Bank card today and was given a ‘new generation card’ (their words) with 6 digit pin AND VISA still on it. Cost jumped from 100 to 400b now for replacement. Account number remains the same.

We have our cards on our mobile phones here. Just scan at ATM's or tap n go on screens in stores or where once cash was used. Never carry cash now.

Not neccesary with some escort services but I've noticed the bar girls still require red, green, blue or gold paper notes. :(

The villages are all cash ...not sure about the drug cartels anymore.

I see on the Bangkok ATM's that they are offering free replacements of your old Direct Debit Visa card. Perhaps I should change now rather than wait to be charged 400 THB, should they follow the example set by Krungsri.

Thought Bangkok bank had dropped VISA. The new cards are without the logo so useless if in other ASEAN countries. Maybe an account holder can confirm this?

I can’t wait for that to reach a Thailand, what with the number of phones the Thais manage to lose.

Good job they usually have bugger all in their accounts.

Don't laugh too hard, it is coming in more ways then one. "PromptPay" allows the girls to direct bank transfer. The government would not want to be too greedy though the first instance of an entrepreneur being taxed on transfers in and it will go straight back to cash, rapidly, unless they get rid off cash like they kind of did in India, they got rid of all the small bank notes.
