Starbeam Restaurant Surin yesterday at lunch. We can accomodate parties and gatherings for up to 30 people at our restaurant with some couple/few hours advance notice. We are a family oriented restaurant offering wonderful Thai and Western dishes from our menu.

I find many people just do not understand the restaurant business. I've had people say, 'How can you survive? I was in yesterday at 2 p.m. and was the only customer in the place.' (And we were happy to see you.) :)

Well dude, remember this, most people are at work at 2 p.m., hell all day actually (and most Thais work 6 days a week), both Thais and the foreign teachers, expats etc. Evenings at times we have had to turn away customers as we were full (we seat around 26 to 30), especially Friday nights and on the weekends (We DO take reservations).

It amuses me that people think a restaurant will be busy or full up all day long during operating hours. We are off the tourist grid, not on the main downtown streets, don't have a 'bar' or outside seating. And, we still do fine most days. If you are a restaurant owner expecting custom all day here in Surin you'll eventually see there are dead times during the day, almost every day, and slow evenings on certain days of the week too, especially if you are not in the downtown areas, or near the hotels where you may grab some of the tourist and passing through town crowd. And, to be in those areas, you will be paying likely 3 to 4 times the rent as in other areas of town.

As for the customer saying this... be happy you are there during a slow period. It means you'll have a quicker taking of your order, a faster delivery of your food, and better attention from the staff. :)
