Storm hammers Surin Province and heavy rains cause flooding in Bangkok

SURIN, 30 June 2014 (NNT) - More than 100 houses, schools, and temples in Si Khoraphum District, Surin Province, have been affected by a hailstorm that struck the area last night.

Heavy rains and a whirlwind destroyed several buildings in Surin Province. In Taen Subdistrict, a large tree has fallen and crushed a row of restrooms at Baan Noan Daeng Monastery. More than 10 houses were also damaged by the storm.

In nearby Na Rung sub-district, the same province, a storm has completely blown away roofs of at least 20 houses and also the roof of a parking lot of Baan Du Arang School.

In Si Khoraphum District, several trees were uprooted and have blocked many community roads around the area. Authorities from the Si Khoraphum Municipality have been dispatched to remove the fallen trees to ease the transportation problem.

Elsewhere in Bangkok, heavy rains that lasted more than an hour last night have caused floodwater in such areas as the Thetsaban Songkhro Road and the Or-Tor-Kor (Marketing Organization for Farmers) Market.

The waters were reported 50 centimeters deep in the Tao Pun area, Pracharat 2 Road, Kamphaengphet 2 Road, and certain parts of Vibhavadi-Rangsit Road. Authorities have deployed water pumps to remove the rising floodwaters from the area.
