You’ll have to pay a fee for your passport and a courier fee of £23.01. The courier fee pays for your passport to be sent securely to the UK Visa Application Centre where you applied for you to collect.

If you are comparing like for like, you need to factor in the Thai minimum wage which is 300bt---or 200bt in CO-CO's neck of the woods. That makes UK passports relatively cheap in comparison. :)

Then I would need to factor in the minimum wage for each country on the list. It was just a quick exercise, I wasn't looking at a full time job!

[Edit: and the cost of living index for all said countries].

What surprised me from the figures is the position of Norway with their very high minimum wage.
 
What you could do Yorky is use the Big Mac index to get an accurate weighting of the strength of any given currency.
Having said that though, I am really only kidding!
 
I had never heard of that before (I have now googled it). I really dislike McDonald's anyway.

Why not use eggs?

Back in 98, Total (the French oil company) moved into Tavoy in Myanmar to supervise the landfall and subsequent land construction of the Yadana gas pipeline. They agreed with the Myanmar government that whenever possible, they would purchase produce for their employees from the local suppliers. At that time eggs were 10 US cents each. Within a few weeks, eggs had increased in price to US$ 1.00 plus and the locals could then not afford to eat eggs.
 
Just an update. The wife took a friend to Surin this morning arrived at 8 and all slots were taken said there was over 1000 people turned away. She said no big deal as they will go to Ubon next month. Was not a total lost as she went to Lobinson.
 
Why on earth would so many folk be wanting passports at this time? And how were they made aware that Surin were issuing them this week.? We only knew thanks to Yorky''s post

As GL states, it was published earlier. Mine was only intended as an aide memoire.

However, regarding the numbers wanting passports, is it possible that in order to visit the Khmer casinos, passports will be required in future? Just an idea.

Passport have been required for sometime for all concerned to cross into or out of Thailand and Cambodia at the Chong Chom crossing and that includes the casino. This is the major reason that the Chong Chom Market on the Thai side has taken a major hit as there are no Cambodian workers. By having a one week road show in Surin for a Thai PP it just made it a lot easer to apply by not having to drive 400 km rt and people came out of the rice fields.
 
ASEAN would probably add encouragement to travel outside Thailand.
