WISE transfer delays

I have just paid for my tickets back to Thailand. My credit card got blocked no less then three times. Trying to spend my own money.
I had to ring the bank fraud department each time. Sorry sir but your card has transactions in Thailand.
The algorithm sees it as suspicious. I like to see anyone try and rip me off. In the payment process the process just hung and gave me no indication of what had happened. The fraud department said that attacks are growing exponentially and now he did not say this. But intermated that it may be soon that digital money may become impossible. So much for the cashless society. That is why transactions are taking so long. Bad state actors like North Korea and Russia have huge departments trying to steal anything.

I had a few issues this week and I can do better than copy my post from Asean Now:-

I am a fanboy of WISE but they tested my patience this week.

They did a great job in blocking an attempted fraudulent transfer but then I had 3 days of limbo - and a cycle of them 'temporarily freezing' my account and cancelling my transfers. They suggested that the account was then 'clear' after their due diligence but the same thing happened every time I tried to make the transfer again. It was like Groundhog Day. Extremely frustrating and the support function, whilst helpful, had no power and there seemed to be a disconnect between customer service and the compliance/security team.

Everything was finally cleared up this morning.

I still love WISE but these Shenanigans caused me to try out REVOLUT and this mistress is now a threat to my long-term relationship with WISE.

I also need to apologise to the poster who suffered similar frustrations earlier this year and I was critical of his lack of patience while WISE 'did their job'. I now have greater empathy with him but patience is required, if you encounter a situation like this, because it seems to take forever to resolve.

Still a fan.........just not so smitten as I was.

I guess my message is; if you want to use WISE they are very good until there is an issue and then patience is required whilst they do what they have do. That bit, I think, they can do better. It is worth being patient (albeit frustrating) because they do the normal things very well - and they were diligent in blocking the fraud attempt. BUT, like so many things - banking in your home country, banking in Thailand and money transfers - have at least one alternative available. I shall now familiarise myself with REVOLUT and MONZO and I may no longer keep balances with WISE because I don't want to be denied access to those funds.

Always have a back up plan is my mantra. Being a pessimist and a procrastinator has served me well over the years.
The later has made me miss a few bargains, but then. I never really cared. Like the organization of my banking was atrocious for a long while.

In May WISE will be recognized. as Thai bank and issue debit cards to us if requested.
Can you open a REvilut account if living in a Thai address?

There is a more complicated AI response if you Google REVOLUT.

I believe, not officially recognised in Thailand but I transferred funds this week (as a test - 6 seconds for a small Baht transfer) and have a card.

Try to open REVOLUT account on android phone.
The app would not let me proceed, inquired and was told REVOLUT was not supported in Thailand.

The problem is not Wise but your bank not sending them the money. Some times I get within 6 hrs other time couple of days, and depends when I order the money from my bank, time of day. And it is always in my bank by 17:30 the day they received the money.
The issue seems to be due to delays in having the money actually in Wise’s hands. If your money source is cash in one of your Wise accounts, it’s in seconds. If you’re transferring by ACH from a bank account, it can take up to 6 days, and weekends matter. It is actually cheaper with larger transfers to wire the funds to Wise, which gets it done in hours instead of days (I just was quoted $37 Wise ACH fee for $20,000 USD transfer, or $6 USD if wired in.) Depends on what your bank charges for a wire. Schwab makes it cheap and easy for US customers to wire, as it can be a domestic wire to Wise USA, entered online. I’m trying to time the fleeting exchange rate bump due to the war, and build up my K-Bank account before it drops back to 30-31.

Was connected to VPN. Connecting from Thailand app does not have a connection for Thailand.

I have Revolut app on 2 phones....one on android and one on iPhone.

Please,
Location where you loaded the app on your phones ?
Maybe you could share how you went about getting the app on phones.

Absolutely no idea I am afraid.

My android was bought recently and hasn't been out of Thailand - so I must have loaded Revolut whilst in Thailand . I don't know about the iPhone but I think that was October when I received my card.

I just downloaded it as normal; didn't give it any thought - it just happened.

I suspect that I succeeded, where you failed, because I have a UK address that I use for my banking.

I’m having a Wise.com problem, and have come up with their actual 24/7 phone contact number: 888-501-4041 Good luck. It got me to a call center in some third world country, heavy accent, and no resolution. Wise is rejecting an incoming wire transfer from Schwab because the name on the wire isn’t exactly the same as the name on my Wise account. They’ve been accepting ACH transfers from Schwab for 5 years. Ugh. The trust name is very long, and my name is part of it. There doesn’t seem to be a way to escalate to a supervisor. Overall, Wise is very good. I’m using their debit card a lot, euros in Europe, yen in Japan. I’d rather not dump them.
