F.C.D Bangkok Bank account

With interest rates like that they will go a long way to off set your currency devaluation of 22%.... NOT ! :sob:

The forum actually has a Finance (Banking matters) topic section. ;;dropped eyes;;

Why the heck these meandered flutterings are in the Chit Chat section never to be found again after six months must be a sign of the times. Well done.

I certainly didn't put the thread here!

[Perhaps someone with the authority could move the thread into the Finance section]

True but no charge off Bangkok bank I don't think and have been told .My book never came today but will tomorrow and will have more info £610 is only on first trans min after that can be smaller .£9999 Is a UK rule from most bank not a Thai rule .even UK bank to UK bank must be under £10000 .
Maybe you can do more BuT questions and paper work could be a hassle .
Cost £30 a trans .
Good deal IMO .and then your in total control of when you take out from your currency to baht

They give a better rate than these and these are good.
But these guys charge £15 for every £1000 you send.
The exchange rate has improved a little today I see.

I use MoneyCorp and have found them to be excellent. There is no fee and I do not pay for the transfer e.g. £15 per £1,000 as shown above. Their exchange rate is also good, usually only a little less than the TT exchange rate of the day. Because my exchange rate is set 7 working days before the transfer, if the £ falls, I get better than the TT rate. It works in reverse too.

As I've stated before, I transfer direct from my bank in UK for Sterling 15.00 and it's in my Thai bank (in Bht) at the current TT rate in approximately 1 hour (less the deposit charges). I think I'll stick with this.

I believe you will find that there is a charge for receiving the monies. If not they are depositing the Sterling, then changing to Baht all free of charge. Banks do not do anything "for free".

There was no charge £ 9990 was sent and 9960 arrived £30 was taken from The UK.
All good .

........ and did the £ 9960 go into a Sterling account with Bangkok Bank ?
Yes its in sterling.
But I'm sure you can do the same in most currency.
Interest don't know .but if it goes from 42 to say 44 I'm happy as we got paid in £ .

Thanks Alan. So to confirm - just so we are clear.

You now have a Sterling bank account with Bangkok Bank into which you put £ 9960 without any other charge on this side ?

Do they pay interest on that account - and, are there any charges when you change into Baht ?

I will find out this detail latter and let you know mate .
And yes I now have a sterling bank account with Bangkok bank .My friend transfares a lot of £ and he put me on to it .
He says it's the best way to do it if bringing over lumps of cash and you want to be in control of when you withdraw with out any drama .

Yes, I agree entirely with the idea.

I am interested in what charges there are for converting to Baht and what rate they use (TT, cash, other).

Especially, now it is good to have Sterling at your fingertips and transfer to Baht when you can fix the rate on offer.

I can transfer Sterling from the UK without any charges and it will usually be here within 2 hours. However, because the rate is (almost) always better over here I don't know exactly what the rate is until it is processed by Kasikren Bank. As Yorky said, KBank then take 0.25% max 500 Baht +0.1%+20 Baht.
