O-A Visa Extension

I emailed the NZ Embassy in Bangkok and told them that Kap Cheong Immigration had kept my passport. I told them everything that happened.
The Consular Officer want to phone immigration.
I told her no to phoning at this stage as my concerns were if immigration lost my passport and if it was legal for them to hold it.

She told me that when I went back next week to phone her at the embassy if I had any problems.

Also told me that if any official wants hold onto my passport in the future that I must ask for a note as to why and get a receipt.

I thanked her very much.

You know why you were told that? Because if you said it. They would never of taken your passport in the first place.
Rule number one. Thai public service. NEVER put anything in writing and definitely NEVER put your name to it.

I mean for absolutely anything. Ask them jot down what documents you need that are missing. They won't do it.
Try me on this, if you don't take my word for it.

Bye the way. It took me some time but I read every document, me and my wife signed last year for my visa. There was one that set out my whole life to this time and they just made the whole thing up. I was saying WTF is this? Came out of their own minds. Part mentioned that I was Christian. Never been a Christian!. Bye the way , I signed it, hell why not.
Others were you are aware of breaking Immigration rules and laws.
Last year I was thinking surely I would be back in Australia and would not have to go through this again. WRONG!

This time it is going to be even more difficult. My wife has fallen completely deaf. Happened last December. It had been a steady decline for years then a rapid on set.
Yes we have seen many specialists. She needs a Cochlea implant. Which in Thailand costs 50,000 USD. So we will wait to get back to Australia where the world leader is.
I have been her translator for some time now. I give myself a Thai proficiency of about 80%. I wish it was more. I try my best.
I tell people she is deaf. But they just keep talking to her anyway and ignoring me. She is pretty good at reading lips. I would say she has been doing it subconsciously for many years. Now think of all the deaf people that use that method. Mask wearing is a nightmare. The stupid news readers on TV even wear masks how stupid is that!

Been meaning to tell everyone but, could not put it in writing its been very upsetting. 555 . I have no right, it's not me that has been struck deaf.

So what would happen to you guys, losing your translator?

Sorry to add it to this OP but it just flowed on.

I've experienced this. My IoM bank wanted a copy of my passport to be countersigned by an official. I tried Immigration. "Just sign that that is a copy of this passport". No chance. Bank manager? Again, no chance. Eventually I mailed it to my daughter in UK (copper in the MET) who signed it and sent it back to me (she's married so used her married name).

Thank you Rice.
I empathize your wife and you. My hearing is very bad and I don.t like going to places like immigration for that very reason.
I do understand about the note but the receipt is a reasonable request.
I worked in the public service for a total of 32 years.
After 25 years in Corrections I trust very little.
The passport is a important document,
If immigration do misplace it.
The embassy knows and if I need there help and I am right they will help me as much as they can.
I also have a witness.
It most likely will not happen
But if it does!

.

Good luck to you and Mrs on moving forward with her hearing assist once back Ozzie-side.

I can well understand how this situation creates a difficult position in a foreign country.

Prior to moving to Surin I did my annual extensions first in Bangkok then Pattaya. Nobody every wanted to speak to my significant other, probably most guys in Pattaya don't even have one! "Hello hansom, buy me a drink" - "only if you come to immigration with me tomorrow" So I was surprised how much interest they took in my girlfriend when I moved to Surin.

It may not be just the difference between the big city and Surin. When I first came to Surin (1999) and applied for an extension (2001) I needed only my passport, my bank passbook (showing the necessary balance), and copies of both. And ฿1,900.00.

[Edit: Oh and my letter from the British Embassy "confirming" my pension].

I think we are all aware that different immigration area's and officers have there own idea's and agendas.
I think at Surin we have been very fortunate to have a good crew at Kap Cheong.
Last Thursday I never saw one of the old staff and those that was there were mainly women.
I think perhaps it could about things to come at Kap Cheong.
My next will be at Surin.
As my health is not getting any better and if I need to I will pay an agent to do it for me.

DC, from your SIL's residence what is the distance to Kap Cheong ?
What is the approximate distance from SIL's residence to IMM located in the new government facility ?

Bit of a guess on that Coffee.
Return about 300 ks Kap Cheong.
Return about 160ks Surin
That is not exact by any means.
This time the main reason I went to Kap Cheong was the Bangkok Bank and the Corona Virus.
The bank in Surin is usually full of people and I thought the risk of catching the virus could be quite high.
When I went to the bank in Kap Cheong there were only two of us customers in the bank.
Otherwise I would have gone to immigration in Surin.
Normally I stay in Surin for 2 nights for a change and meet up with friends and get some english therapy lessons.
My wife is the only one in the village who speaks english.
Because of the virus I did it in one day,
It was not a easy drive for me at my age.
I have had only one vaccination.

Time to come home Les!

The funnel cnt discussed here sounds very much like the Medussa at Jomtien immigration, counter 6.
When I renewed my married visa in March, we had what we knew we needed but, NOOO.
The life support system for a twat demanded original doccumentation from our land lady, including her ID card along with two more photo;s
with a date card in them for that day.
Nastiest piece of work I have ever seen. Her battery operated boyfriend, B.O.B, must have died.
