Water Shortages In Surin - July 2019

We, along with several of our neighbouring houses, have employed a pro to bore in our respective gardens. Refer to Nomad's post #200 and that's what we have installed. The cost of the drilling to 18 metres, the pump, piping, and the electrics (to a nearby weatherproof housing) was 13,000THB. In addition, I used 4 leftover floor tiles to form a temporary base, and bought 20 curved bricks @12THB each to make a 40cm high platform for the pump. It was all installed a fortnight ago, and has only been used twice (after testing) when our city-fed 1,000 litre tank emptied, but we were away from last Monday to Saturday. The water works topped up our tank three times prior to our leaving, all FOC. I refuse to fill that tank with unfiltered, untreated water from the bore hole, and the new pump alone is adequate to deliver water throughout our 2 storey house, albeit at slightly reduced pressure compared to our old pump by the tank. A series of 4 valves needs changing over whenever we swap supplies between the tank and the bore hole. One of these is on the house-side of the meter and is there (in the present absence of a non-return valve) to prevent water being pumped from the borehole to the city system. The non-return valve is due to be fitted today.

Total cost therefore was 13,240 THB

Activated charcoal filled water filters like the one shown below are available from the store within the grounds of Makro, located by the two restaurants.

The cost for the smaller of the two on sale is 9,700 baht. It is a pre-filter between the pump from the borehole and the water going into the house or a holding tank. It is not in itself enough to produce drinking water. A separate reverse osmosis unit is required to produce drinking water.

The depth of the borehole is not really relevant, it's at what depth the water table sits which is relevant.
I would not disagree with that comment. However, what I have witnessed while watching these guys drill these holes is that water burst forth from the hole when they strike water. Maybe they had to go down 30 metres to find water. Who knows? Not me for sure.

We have a 6" bore hole with a 4" pump. Hole is 36 meters deep and the pump is at about 30 meters.
At the time when it was installed our water was at about 6 meters depth.

I would like to check where it is now... Any ideas?

Not really but you could check the water pressure being delivered at ground level. The difference between the specified pump pressure and that should give you the depth at which the water level is.

I think.

Warning. Just telephoned our drinking water delivery man for more water. "No can do. No water!" Oh dear, time to stock up on beer instead. :D:D:D

Ours didn't arrive today either. Just checked the tank - maybe 300 litres left. I know of someone who has a few bins and another who will give us well water. I've just been told that our bin has a crack in the bottom!

Just had 6 barrels delivered, arrived 1 hr after order...nice clear clean water, Bt 150 delivered.
Ahhh, life in the countryside...

I don't suppose that you are inclined to divulge the source (and telephone number) of the supplier of said water?

What is the capacity of the barrels?

He just pumps from his barrels into our holding tank and extra barrels (see picture), which I guess are 250 liters each. I kind of doubt he would deliver to Surin, we are in Thungmon, about 12 kms NW of Prasat. There are several places to get water here if you have your own barrels, just pump from their ponds into your barrels...Bt 5/barrel.

Are you in a traveling mood? I can post a map.

I don't have barrels at present but I'm working on it. I have friends who have wells locally so once I get the barrels I should be able to survive another day or two.

Say final phase tomorrow. Just posted.

Although I do sympathise with the farmers, wasn't it posted earlier in this thread that Surin's domestic water supplies are from bore holes?

That was a miss quote and was retracted. You can go back and look as it is in this thread. But all domestic water for Surin City is from Huay Saneng Reservior.

Wow! I was out and about today in the city. I cannot believe how many huge water trucks were on the streets.
