Extending 'permission to stay' at Kap Cheong

Humbert, when did they tell you to go back and get your stamp? They told me to call KCI a few days before my UC ends. Also, did they mention the password thing?

The told me to call a couple of days before Dec. 24th. They said nothing about a password for the 90 day. I don't understand the password thing. When you accept the conditions and get the application page their is nothing about a password, same for page 2. When you check the status you enter a transactiion number that they supply you online. The whole process bypasses Kap Choeng directly.

The password thing as I understand is ONLY for reporting your return to your address in lieu of the TM30 forum. When you go to KCI to get your approval go into the Suppression Unit Office at the far end and they will assist you on this password.

News from other forums about KCI:

Final stamp after consideration took 2 hours for one poster, 4 hours for another guy. Looking for tea money as well. Fun init?

The dear leader's campaign to stamp out corruption is a big joke. The police and army are the most protected and the most guilty.

Note to self...the reason I bought a house and a rice farm for my wife was...mmmm...oh yes , I almost for-got...I LUV THAILAND !!!! (...and to take care of her and her family once I'm gone.)

There are always alternatives to living here and setting your fixed assets to blow in the wind as you depart.
If I were a USD multi-millionaire I'm sure as shyolla that I wouldn't have come to make my life's final chapter here...but alas I am not.
This is my long-term healthcare solution as I retired early. Hopefully I made a proper choice.

In the end - don't ya think that living here is a better choice than some of those other alternatives.

My youthful dreams of crossing the desert with Bedouins on a camel , visiting Africa and standing atop Everest are now fulfilled only in dreams.
There are many journeys that I still wish to make while I still can instead of slaving away with four weeks leave if I'm lucky.
We're ALL getting older.
Very few of us are getting younger whereas one can glide with the tide wherever and whenever one feels so inclined 'south of the border'.

What does this have to do with KCI ?
Probably not much...except this is their country -not mine.
I only have to decide if I want to play by their rules or go back to playing by someone else'.

For now --- I'll play by theirs.

Why don't YOU ask them ?
There is really no need, I deal with them on a fairly regular basis and still think they are as helpful and reasonable as can be expected. They have even visited Herr Frankie's place a number of times to show people how to do online reporting.

Precisely why no-one should be asking anyone. It's like a bar owner asking the police "Why am I not allowed to serve alcohol today? The guy round the corner is selling it". We all know where that one will lead.

Curious IE. I've been informed that Sisaket is kind of dead. They don't even have a farang forum :p

What are your thoughts about life between Surin and Sisaket ?

I'm sure Yorky could always pull up roots...on second thought - maybe not as married and better not with home...(though I'm sure Archa is sold in Sisaket). ;)

C'mon Yorky...don't you think each IMM station gets their orders from above (ie: BKK) ? :mask:
Possibly there have been some rogue dealings and going's on among some expats in the province.
(Ryan brought up a topic a while back that involved murder though nothing more was ever mentioned.)
If you were a patron of FC , you knew for years that quite a bit of unsavory dealings were taking place among some of the less stellar expats.

For the first time since I've been in Thailand a Police Officer came to my home to take a copy of my passport. It had nothing to do with IMM.
He said ,"Coffee , we now have to know the identity and where the foreigners live in Surin."
Possibly they need a jump to help identify the dead bodies when they're not able to locate passports.

I don't have an answer as to exactly WHY KCI is doing what they're currently doing.
But it's my choice as to whether I'll sit and play their game or move my chips to another table.

Hi Coffee
Yes SSK is dead and all should keep well away IMO.
Seriously, though, I am not aware of any bars/restaurants selling Archa in SSK or Ubon (& I've been in a few). I think cans might be for sale in Big C/Tesco but not being a drinker, I'm not sure.

Take their orders from Bangkok? Well, yes there are stated requirements but each provincial immigration office has a lot of flexibility to figure out how to invent revenue streams.
In Pattaya, and yes I have first hand experience, it's a farang friendly environment which means if you have your required ducks in a row, visas are relatively easy to obtain. If you are missing something important you can hire someone outside the office to grease the process and get your visa without a lot of face time inside. Chaeng Wattana is by the book and things like 'home visits' do not exist. The downside there is that just the queue to the vetting desk is half a block long in the morning. Like many of the police in Thailand, the cops at KCI are just looking to get their beaks wet because nobody is breathing down their necks enforcing or requiring a clean operation.

In that case Yorky must stay in Surin as cans may be unacceptable to him ;-))

Obviously you decided to play by their rules and chummy up on top. It's always your choice, my friend.
In hindsight our own Prachonchai Nick never has a problem making an extension.

I don't know WTF you mean by 'chummy it up' and I don't like the implication. I said that I think this office is overstepping it's authority and was pretty damned pissed off about it. I never said I wouldn't furnish the information they asked for.

This is a quote from Tod Daniels, an expert on Thai Immigration issues who posts on other forums. News to me and pretty much opens the door for KCI or any other office to require whatever they please:

"I think that last bit written into the rules about extensions; "or other documentation deemed relevant by the officer" is their catch-all.. They can pretty much ask for what every they want. "

I do accept that. But to extend "other documentation deemed relevant by the officer" (whether competent or not) to house visits is somewhat pushing it (IMO). What "other documentation" are they obtaining from the house visit that can't be provided on the initial application?
