Extending 'permission to stay' at Kap Cheong

Was at immigration yesterday for my annual extension and was only given 30 days. They tell me that they need to verify my residence and following that I can return (in 30 days) and pick up my extension. It is just as Humbert says in his opening of this thread.

As it is almost time for my application may I ask one question of you. Did you receive a 30 day extension from the date you applied or the date when your previous extension expired? (I shall be applying some 30 days before the expiration of my current extension).

Yesterday I had the home visit for my retirement visa.
2 Officers both very polite and friendly.
My visa was up for renewal on the 8th March, I went to KC on the 15th February (to keep to my 90 day reporting) and the 30 days is to 15th March - so Yorkie it is 30 days from the day I applied.
They told me to go to KC on the 15th March after telephoning to confirm my extension is ready.

Agree with OP. Different than last year.

30 day extension from the date of your application.
Your extension of visa date doesn't accrue or lose anytime.

Your annual renewal date remains the same within one day (possibly depending on a leap year, possibly not).

Just concluded the visit to my home by Immigration police a couple of hours ago. So they came here, set up a portable office and scrutinized my passport for any discrepancies. Following a brief Qand A session they requested that my wife round up the local village head plus one other to verify that I actually resided here. The main guy then had 3 issues that I needed to be aware of:
1. I needed to call immigration about 3 days before the end of my 30 day extension prior to actually going to collect my annual extension.
2. Be aware that my new 90 day would commence on the day I received my annual extension, although my annual extension anniversary would remain the same as my original entry into Thailand.
3. He advised me to be sure to get a re-entry permit if I planned to exit Thailand.

As for the village headman, the immigration police advised him that he was to inform them if any falang came to reside in the village overnite. That, according to my wife, was a direct result of the Spanish clown that dismembered his compatriot and proceded to dump the guy's body parts into a klong in Bangkok a few weeks ago, before fleeing with his girlfriend to a neighboring village here. Hmmmm.

Just a minor point. If I make my application say 32 days in advance of the expiration of my current "permission to stay", the 30 day extension would not be necessary as I would have 32 days left already from my previous extension. Just trying to get it clear in my own mind before I turn up on their doorstep.

A "fact" that was obviously related to your wife by the IO's?

They make it up as they go along!

Yorky, I think the purpose of the 30 day extension vs. the usual 1 year extension is so that immigration can have time to fully vet you before granting the anuual ex. thus I don't think that having 32 days remaining vs. 30 days is relevant. Just a guess on my part. As for the info about the Spainish guy and his relevance to the more thorough vetting is anybodys guess as well. Only relayed that info as it was given to the wife

Just reread my post, so I think that when you report, if you have at least 30 days prior to your actual anniversary they will have sufficient time to vet you so you would probably be O.K. That however will not preclude their visit to your abode.

That however will not preclude their visit to your abode.

I had not even the remotest belief that it would.

Thanks.

Wouldn't it be simpler to just grant the extension immediately (as previously) and then visit you at any time after granting said extension to confirm that the issue of same was legitimate? I'm sure they have the power to revoke the said extension at any time during the course of the year.

Or am I being too logical?

Thanks for your information Arturo, it is good your Mrs reports to you what is actually said some wives do not, as for fear of upsetting their husbands.
You don't say which your extension is based on but I can bet it is "Marriage" Not retirement. Can you confirm this please, just for my interest sake.

Yes Yorky, you are being entirely too logical. I also thought that it would be more prudent to do as you suggested i.e. grant the extension and check later, however that would make the process easier for us, and our convenience does not enter into the equation.

Rice, my extension is indeed based on retirement. I think that the basis for our extension request has no bearing on their renewed vigilance , it's simply a matter of bringing happiness back to the people.

The reason I ask is for a different reason. Thanks for the info. No need to elaborate with a detailed answer, but ask your wife if they cast aspersions on her reputation. I have heard too many things from these folk, that is totally unnecessary.

Interesting, Rice. I'm doing my annual extension next week, accompanied by my boyfriend of 16 years' standing. No civil union or marriage, as we can't do it in Thailand, and we see no reason to spend money on a trip abroad for a piece of paper which would be worthless here.

Back in around 2003, an IO asked why my girlfriend (at the time) lived in Surin but was from Payao. She asked him where he was from. "Petchabun", he said.

Conversation over.
