I received this today.

I've told them that I shall write to them and hopefully the matter may be concluded before Christmas.

Just back from Pattaya & there s a letter waiting for me from NatWest,Cust Tax Operations,Wymondham with a NR postcode which I assume is in"Norwich"area) asking me to
complete form & must be certified by Solr,Accountant or Embassy official.
Saying they have a Legal requirement to identify your tax residences. I thought the Tex Revenue did all that, not high street Bank Branches?
Any ideas? Has anyone else (UK Ex-pats) rec d anything similar?
About 12mths ago I had letter similar to Yorkies, saying they d close my a/c if I didn t get form signed. In my case I went & bothered the Bk/Manager at Bangkok Bank & he
willingly signed copy of my passport.

My letter didn't appear to want any certification of the form if I accepted that I was "Tax Resident in Thailand". However, it's not 100% clear. I have written to them for clarification so I may hear something by early November.

And only a week ago the same organisation told me that they couldn't accept a Kasikorn official because their head office is in Thailand. I get the impression that they make it up as they go along!

To enable the automatic exchange of tax information, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) has led the development of a global Common Reporting Standard (CRS). This new agreement requires financial institutions (in participating areas) to identify customers who are tax resident in jurisdictions other than where their account is held.

The financial institutions must also report information about these customers to the relevant authority. For example, if a customer holds an account in England, but is tax resident in France, a report must be filed. To ensure we can comply with this legislation we need to have in place the appropriate policies and processes.

We’ve a legal requirement to identify customers’ tax residencies and tax statuses. This is because local tax authorities have signed international agreements to share information for tax reasons.

Not the same organisation.......

Now I am totally confused. I am not registered with the Thai Authorities and I do not pay any personal income tax in Thailand. However, I am registered with the Tax Man in the UK, tax is deducted on my UK income and I receive routine correspondence in Thailand from the UK Tax Man including my personal tax allowance. As far as I am concerned I am registered/resident in the UK for tax purposes even though I am ordinarily non-resident. So how can I be tax resident in Thailand? Don't understand what this is all about and, fortunately, my International Bank (Lloyds) have not requested said information.

The problem is that if "Tax Resident in Thailand" they require you to give them your Thai TIN (Tax Identification Number) which I do not have and I doubt that you do. This was the subject of my request for clarification letter.

They wrote to me from there.

Unusual to have 'tax operations' for the UK and non-UK (Channel Islands) in the same office........... especially Wymondham... loverly place but exactly a financial hub of anywhere.

I have one. Used it some 20 years ago to claim back tax deducted from a Thai bank savings account.

You are NOT required to give a TIN.
