I received this today.

FFS Nomad Yorky is struggling enough with this concept!!

Now..... do you bank with Lloyds Bank (an international bank) or with Lloyds Bank International ??

And now you have confused me too. I can log onto both of those websites and access my Internet bank account with the same ID and password. I only have one account. My bank statements are marked 'LLOYDS BANK' (no clues there) and carry the identifier 'INTL PREMIER ACC' (maybe that is a clue). And the statement invites me to visit them online at www.lloydsbank.com/international. So I guess I am either of the two mentioned by you, yes/no?

I believe Alan banks with Nat West whereas you, if you recall, bank with Nat West International.

It's only since May/June this year that I've banked with NatWest International. Prior to that it was just NatWest.

I would say that you are 'international'.

If you revisit the original post you will see how this whole thread started.

You must be joking.......

Only joking Pal........ I see you simply encountered a change of name........it was Alan who was threatened with expulsion......

I believe that it is a legal requirement for the bank to inform the relevant tax authorities in the country where you are resident of the interest which you receive on your savings and for which you may have a tax liability.

WHAT f**kING INTEREST?

No problems then! What interest? Therefore, no need to tell the Thai Authorities and no need to fill in that silly form.

As long you are not liable for Thai tax on any income brought into Thailand.......

You are not resident, you are an alien.

Prakhonchai Nick is resident.

If I tell them I'm not tax resident in Thailand they will require me to jump through hoops to prove it. As they believe that I am, the only thing I need to do is clear up my lack of a TIN (which I have already written to them about). As far as I know, the only way I could be issued with a TIN in Thailand is if I pay tax (or receive a tax credit as PCN has).

So you don't receive ANY interest from the bank.

If you took your most recent option and had your income paid direct to Thailand would that not open up the possibility of a liability to Thai tax ?

No interest whatsoever from NatWest International. If I remember correctly I received 60 pence from RBSI a few years ago.

No. Withholding tax is deducted from any interest I accumulate here in Thailand (15%). I already have one pension paid direct to Thailand and have done for 18 years. However, those payments are retained in a savings account that does not attract interest therefore is not subject to tax. At my discretion I may move sums from the savings accounts to my fixed deposit accounts and then I shall be subjected to withholding tax on the interest.

I was required to have a tax file number and still have it. Never been requested to show it for anything though. End of each tax year I just lodge the company's tfn on the returns.

Thank you everybody for your input.
I m still dealt with by the UK Tax peop;e,don t have a Thai (TIN),so I ll send back the form, with copy of UK annual Tax lettr + covering letter & hopefully that s the
end of the matter.
