Something new at immigration.

I have been involved in many visa applications for different countries and I hate the arrogance of the US visa process.

How anyone can base a visa decision on an interview with an Isaan rice muncher is beyond me….a friends partner of over 10 years had no chance in an interview situation- and yet this 58 year old would have been a perfect visitor, for her proposed two holiday in Vegas, where a family member was celebrating a birthday.

I had considered taking my partner to San Francisco but that experience made me decide not to bother.

For UK visas, and most definitely for Schengen visas, the process is very prescriptive and criteria based. Meet the criteria and you are approved.
That is one of the main reasons (and the trumpism) to avoid the US at all costs IMO.

We have a little local farang group near Rattanaburi who get together for lunch now and then. About 14 guys now plus Thai wives and relatives. Many countries. A Danish guy who got a ‘marriage visa’ just told us that a van with 7 immigration officials showed up at their house unannounced and did a thorough walkthrough and questioning session. Glad I skipped that visa.
I have lived in Rattanaburi for the last 4 years.
The only time I bump into another Farang is in Tesco Lotus.
Some speak. Some ignore me.

They never turn up unannounced. Short notice maybe. You might not be there and what about character witnesses?
If a van of 7 turned up I would make some quick phone calls and match them instantly in locals. I have done it before. I have an elderly lady friend. She was one of my character witnesses the first time around.
They decided to have a go at her. For no reason. She stood up and said who the hell do you think you are? This went counter to all I knew about officialdom and village folk. She ripped strips of them, then Two Pooh yai Bans ripped into them. Then a crew of PEA workers that I know came in and started shouted why are you here. You don't have any power over us. They started it. They got in their fancy pick up and spun the wheels down my driveway. To this day. I look after that lady. I drop the odd treats for her family and buy here new bicycles when they wear out. She is 75 and sells sweets and vegetables by bicycle in nearby villages. What she did that day endeared me to her for ever. This time around I will have the same people here. Minus the PEA crew.
Their job is not to come and harass you and shake you down for coffee money. It is for making sure you are in a bonafide relationship.
Throwing weight around, I don't take to it too well. They can cancel my visa. I don't really care. I will miss my dog. That will be it.
Anything they do will be witnessed by 3 independent observers. I will let you know how the next one goes. I will be doing my extension based on marriage next week.
@Rice ....I really can't understand why Immigration don't like you! :joycat: :joycat::joycat::innocent:

My wife does not help. She is way too Australian. Mind you had very civil interactions at the Surin Office.
It is a two way street. I don't even expect courteous behavior, just business like is fine. Without any snide remarks or outright abuse.
Fair comment.

I fully appreciate that those of us who don't understand the snide comments have an advantage

I just wrote a whole page of how damaged I am by that mob and deleted it. I hope to get around to making a youtube video of the dreadful interactions I have had over the years. It will make great entertainment at their expense.

The USA tourist visa process is a scam as far as Thai women are concerned. The law is that a consular official has to determine that a person is certain to return after visiting the USA, and unless he will certify that, no visa, no reason, no appeal. The result is that poor Thai women can pay the application fee over and over, and submit stacks of paperwork, but are always denied tourist visas. My wife’s sister married a guy from Pennsylvania 20 years ago and became a permanent resident. As our relationship moved towards possible marriage, I suggested that she come visit her sister, who had retired with her husband to Florida, and while visiting, come see our farm in rural Washington State to see if spending the summers there suited her. Her application was flawless apart from the fact that she had no money, no house, no business. USA said ‘no tourist visa’, no appeal. I was shocked. That’s when I studied up on fiancée visas, and figured out that unless she was of bad character, they couldn’t say no (or I’d sue). Given her pristine character, they finally granted approval 7 months later. It’s actually a good program, as it gives both parties time to make sure they are making a good decision. We’re not looking forward to struggling with the USA over getting permission for my wife’s grandson (now 4) to come visit the USA when he is older. I wish they would allow me to put up a big surety bond guaranteeing his return, but there is no such option. The best we could do was to have my wife become a US citizen as soon as the law allowed, so we no longer would have to kowtow to USCIS.

If you’d like an invitation to the next get together, let me know some contact info and I’ll arrange it. Haven’t seen you at Lotus. I always chat up farang there. Or give me a call at 0621655402 if you want to drop by our little lake cottage about 13 km south of Rattanaburi off 2079. This invitation applies to any of the other Surinfarang faithful as well.1767305772082.jpeg
