90 Day Reporting changes - now 15 days before up to reporting date

As said your original was clears as mud. Due to the fact you have a new pp the new extension will be put in it and becomes active on June 7 the day after your old pp along with your old extension expires. Your 12 month extension will start on June 7 2020.

So why did my extensions in the years 2011 to 2019 expire on 27th June? My extension in 2010 expired on 6th June 2010 but my subsequent extension expired on 27th June 2011 and for the next 9 years thereafter.

No answer on that. What matters is your present pp and extension expire June 6 AND you have a new pp.

So, to clarify. I shall apply for my old passport details to be transferred to my new passport during week ending 31st May 2020. At the same time I shall apply for an extension of stay for a further 12 months which, if granted, will expire on 6th June 2021. This will be entered into my new passport. At the same time I shall "present" my 90 day report as I shall be inside the 15 day window.

I'm still not sure about the period between the application date (the last week in May) and the 7th June 2020 when my extension becomes active.

Your old PP and extension is active until midnight of June 6,

Your old passport details will not be transferred to the new passport but your immigration stamps will be - you should have a letter from HMPO requesting that.

You are relatively unusual in that your extension expires on the same day as your passport.... a quirk of timing rather than a planning ineptitude where a passport should have been renewed earlier. Arguably, your details don’t need transferring because a new 12 month extension is being granted..... ie there is nothing valid to transfer - most people would have a current extension and probably a reentry permit.

Not sure what your concerns are about the period from end of May...

That's what I meant. I do not have a letter from HMPO but I didn't have 10 years ago either and the details were transferred.

Surely everyone who obtained an extension on a passport which is valid for less than 12 months has an extension which expires on the same date as their passport?

I renewed my passport in September last year. I haven't yet told Thailand Immigration.

As @gotlost has stated, my old passport and extension are valid until midnight 06:06:2020.

The majority of people renew their passports during the currency of their existing extension- as, indeed, you did. You just didn’t bother to have the Immigration stamps transferred to the new passport. Not sure if you will have an issue with that

According to the American embassy website it is Thai Immigration “law” that requires you to transfer the stamps to the new passport:-

“Thai immigration law requires entry/exit stamps and Thai visas be transferred into new passports. After receiving your new passport, please visit any Thai immigration office to have the visa transferred. The letter to facilitate visa transfers comes standard with all passport renewals and is provided without fee.”

From Richard Barrow’s blog...

Once I had my new passport in hand, I next headed to Immigration to have my valid stamps transferred over. You don’t need to rush there as I did, but I wanted to finish everything within one day. The procedure here is very simple. You will need to photocopy and sign the photo page of both passports. Then photocopy every page in the old passport that has a stamp. These photocopies need to be signed too. You also need to fill out a form with details about your old and new passports. Then, present all of this and the letter that you got from the British embassy to the Immigration officer. I was finished within about 15 minutes. The best thing of all, it was free to transfer the stamps.

The only thing I need to do now is to register my new passport at my local bank. If you didn’t know already, when you get a new passport, you get a new passport number. So, basically, any place that you used your passport to register for something, you need to go back and tell them. Again, there isn’t a rush and in fact, I didn’t do it for a few years last time. It is only a problem when you need to do something and your passport numbers don’t match. You will then need to take your old and new passports with you.

If your extension is issued in the last year of the validity of your passport the extension will expire on the same date that your passport expires. For Brits that must happen to around 40% of them given that new passport applications will only be accepted 9 months maximum prior to expiry of the existing passport?

Regarding the transfer of visas etc., as Barrow states "There's no rush" (on condition that you are not intending to travel overseas in the near future).

I believe that we have discussed this previously on here @CO-CO?

Following on from transfer of visas, etc. to my new passport - if I took both passports to immigration tomorrow (together with all the other necessary documents and paperwork) they will also transfer my extension of stay. On what date will that extension expire?

Immigration is closed on Saturday. If you went Monday they would transfer your extension which will expire June 6.

I shall not be visiting Immigration either today or Monday as "there is no rush" particularly with the current "lockdown". I shall await May and then see what happens.

Same date that it expires now..... 6th June I think you said.

That is not the point.

In the unlikely event (in your circumstances) that you were stopped, and required to present your passport you would not have any immigration stamps in your only valid passport. The old one is invalid and that is the reason for the 'requirement' to have stamps transferred.

The only time when it should necessary to carry both old and new passports is where you have a current visa in the expired passport and you are using the new passport for travel.

It is an academic argument because in your circumstances you are unlikely to put your head above the parapet much before the latter part of May..... although you could go at the start.

I am of the opinion that it will be 27th June 2021 as it was in 2010 (although then 27th June 2011).

At the start of May I would be too early to report my 90 days and, if my new expiry date does happen to be 27th June 2021 then I would be too early to apply for my extension. That happened in 2010 and I had to return 10 days later (when the office was in Chock Chai).

It's currently academic as it will be what it will be.

You asked about transferring your stamps now.......................... the expiry date would be 6th June 2020.

Then when you did your extension in May the new expiry date would be 6th June 2021.

Your old passport is not valid for travel once a new application is made.

Just a thought, which passport did you use for your 90 day reports in March and December........................ the legally valid new one, or the cancelled old one ?

The cancelled old one.

And I appreciate that the old passport is not valid for international travel once the new one has been issued. But, as @gotlost says "Your old PP and extension is active until midnight of June 6".

Got Lost is incorrect, your old passport has been cancelled; this from the passport application guidelines:-

"Uncancelled passports In part B, enter details of all uncancelled passports that you are sending us. A British cancelled passport has the top right-hand corner of the cover cut off".

That thought had crossed my mind too. I am surprised Immigration did not latch onto the expiry of the old passport. I think the passport expiry date is required in the online application.

Whichever you look at it, the old passport is no longer a valid document. Immigration stamps should have been transferred from the old to the new passport several months ago.
