90 Day Reporting changes - now 15 days before up to reporting date

I don't really care.

I'm just bored.

You may be procrastinating the change of passports because you are bored but, in my opinion, the validity of your old passport expired when you were issued with the new passport. The fact that you continue to use your old passport to do your 90-day reports is, de facto, illegal. I hope you kiss the Blarney Stone before you go to SI. You may well need some smooth-talking when you eventually show both passports to Immigration to transfer your visa/extension details from one passport to the other. Good luck.

Indeed, as we referred to recently about your circumstances.

If you had received the usual letter you probably wouldn't have asked the question.

I have not personally been involved but I imagine that you may not be able to amend the passport number online if it not already in the SI system....... hence the need to get stamps transferred and passport details updated. It was also interesting to see a comment that you should also advise your Thai bank of the new passport details as they also hold that as a key source of information.

I am sure that I will not be able to amend my passport number online. Once I apply and hopefully am granted the next extension, it may be the end of my online 90 day reports.

My Thai bank will become aware of my new passport when I apply for my bank letter prior to applying for my new extension.

BTW, the bank teller at Bangkok Bank (Surin) a few years ago was not aware that a new passport had a different number. She believed it followed the same rules as a Thai ID.

I am procrastinating the "change of passports" not because I am bored but to save an extra three trips to SI Immigration.

Yes, I've been reporting online for the last 3 years. Saved me a fortune.

BTW, if I did receive a letter with my new passport I don't have it now. I've applied for one from Bangkok.

My wife has now located the letter blank which was sent with the new passport. Doh!

As said, it would have been most unusual for VfS not to have included the letter.

Nevertheless, your (Mrs Yorky's!!) oversight has raised the good point that if you didn't receive the letter you wouldn't know that you should have had one.

To this end I have suggested to Nick that for our customers we add a couple of lines to our usual advice od dispatch letter:-

"If you have an extension of stay it is a Thai Immigration requirement that your immigration stamps are transferred to your new passport. There should be a letter, from the British embassy, with the new passport and this should handed to your local immigration office. If you do not receive such letter, a blank can be obtained by contacting XXX".

I would suggest an addition to the wording as indicated in red.

There is a query, nay clarification, that I have in respect of the "filling in" of the letter which I shall address tomorrow.

I am sure that Nick will pick that up and deal with it accordingly.

My query is what should I enter in the highlighted boxes?

The last visa that was issued to me was in September 2002 and was entered in my previous passport (expired 2010). This visa was transferred to my then new passport together with other Thai Immigration data. Is this the visa which should be referenced? In respect of the date of entry, should this be the first entry that I made on that particular visa or the last date that I entered Thailand? I appreciate that I am a bit thick when it comes to filling in multiple answer forms.

The British Embassy informed me overnight that they will not be issuing documents during the current crisis so maybe I should just forget this letter and blame Covid-19?

That is the first time I have seen that letter. None was asked for, and none was given, the last time I had my new passport updated with my visa/renewals some 7 years ago.

It's also the first time that I have seen it.

A good example of how things can change..... Thai Immigration have a habit of moving goalposts

Not being pedantic but the visa was not transferred; the visa had been used. The details from that visa would have been transferred as part of the first immigration stamp details that go into the new passport.

On that basis I would put down "a Non-Immigrant 'O' " (or whatever visa you had). Don't blame me if immigration change it, I am simply providing a logical answer.

And the date of entry?

Not haveing a need to use the above form and fill in the relevant boxes, I can only make a guess as to what information you should provide. That said, I do (or did until recently) have to complete a form for re-entry permit, and that forms asks for date of first entry and type of visa. I al;ways indicate my original entry in September 1986, and PR. It has never been queried, and I doubt the IO even looks at it.

Therefore I suggest you indicate the date of entry associated with your original visa and the type of visa issued (if there is a type). If incorrect, the IO will surely amend it.

Ok, a silly question, why do Immigration need a letter from the embassy to ask Immigration to transfer the stamps? Surely, it is obvious to even a school child that a new passport has been issued by the alien's embassy and that the old one has expired. It should follow, by the application of simple logic, that it is necessary for Immigration to transfer the visa details from one passport to another. :D:D:D

May I suggest you inform the British Visa Service (or whoever) that the letter they provide for presentation to Immigration is factually incorrect. The new passport does not receive a new replacement visa! Only the details of the original visa are transferred.
