90 Day Reporting changes - now 15 days before up to reporting date

Got Lost is incorrect

That can't be right!

Anyway, let me explain the occurrences when I last renewed my passport in 2010 (February).

My 90 day report was due around early May 2010 and at that time, reports were acceptable at Chong Chom Immigration Office. However, Chong Chom officials were not empowered to transfer my visa/extension date from my old to my new passport.

It was therefore necessary for me to visit Chock Chai Immigration (Mrs. Dow) to have the information transferred. This had to be done within 7 days of the date that my 90 day report was due so I gathered up all my copies and obtained a letter from Kasikorn Bank confirming my financial status. On the 14th May, I reported to Chock Chai for my 90 day and also to have the necessary information transferred and (hopefully) my new extension of stay issued (my extension of stay expired on 6th June 2010 (of course).

Mrs Dow transferred the necessary information and confirmed my 90 day report however, she was adamant that I was too early to apply for my extension of stay (it was 30 days maximum before at that time). I pointed out that it was only 23 days before expiry (6th June) but to no avail. The date was 27th June 2010 and I was 44 days early for that. She would not be moved so she stamped an extension of stay into my new passport which expired on 27th June 2010 (i.e. 21 days) at no cost.

I returned on 22nd June 2010 with all my copies and a new bank letter and was granted an extension until 27th June 2011.

As far as I remember.

That thought had crossed my mind too. I am surprised Immigration did not latch onto the expiry of the old passport. I think the passport expiry date is required in the online application.

The expiry date for the old passport was/is 6th June 2020. There is no reason why the Immigration Office should believe that has/had changed.

Got Lost is incorrect, your old passport has been cancelled; this from the passport application guidelines:-

"Uncancelled passports In part B, enter details of all uncancelled passports that you are sending us. A British cancelled passport has the top right-hand corner of the cover cut off".

It's the top right hand corner of the front cover and the top left hand corner of the rear cover that are cut off.

Mildly interesting (mainly because of the reference to nom yai Ms Dow)...... but totally irrelevant to your current position.

My current position is virtually the same (other than that you may now apply for your new extension up to 45 days before the expiry of the old one).

If I open the passport the cut off is then at the top left of the front cover, yet at the top right of the rear cover.

It is top right in both cases if you are looking at the facing page of the cover....... coincidentally, EXACTLY as Gov.uk said.....

Whichever you look at it, the old passport is no longer a valid document. Immigration stamps should have been transferred from the old to the new passport several months ago.

Indeed. Surin Immigration were either lazy - or, more likely, just missed it........ HTF you can miss the fact the corners were cut of the passport cover I don't know!

Surin Immigration haven't seen my old passport since May 2019 and they have no idea that I now have a new one.

I don't really care.

I'm just bored.

You are bored because you don't understand it and didn't follow the requirement to have your stamps transferred to your new passport.

An accumulation of errors because SI did not pick up (on 2 occasions) that you presented a cancelled passport for your 90 day report.

Note:- VfS automatically include the letter when they return the passports to the applicants. I am not aware of anyone who has not received one. This requirement for the 'embassy letter' was introduced a few years ago by Thai Immigration.

When reporting on-line there is no need to present a passport to immigration.

Did you report online ?

Yes, I've been reporting online for the last 3 years. Saved me a fortune.

BTW, if I did receive a letter with my new passport I don't have it now. I've applied for one from Bangkok.

Mistakes do happen and the problem is that if the letter was omitted you wouldn't be aware that you should be getting one.

I can't imagine that you will have a problem with SI but requesting the letter from the embassy is a good idea because they will still need to transfer the base Non-O visa details.

Not sure if SI charge 500 Baht to do this.

I intend to conduct my next two on-line 90 day reports (February and May 2020) using the details from the old passport/TM 6 before having my visa/extension of stay details transferred to the new passport in late May 2020.

Can anyone see anything wrong with this?"

CO-Co said: "In theory, no, immigration will not be aware of your new passport until you travel or present it to them for 90 day/extension purposes.

If you were traveling you would carry both passports - the new one being your travel document, the old one containing your visa/extension details."

Indeed, as we referred to recently about your circumstances.

If you had received the usual letter you probably wouldn't have asked the question.

I have not personally been involved but I imagine that you may not be able to amend the passport number online if it not already in the SI system....... hence the need to get stamps transferred and passport details updated. It was also interesting to see a comment that you should also advise your Thai bank of the new passport details as they also hold that as a key source of information.
