Fridge side walls are hot continuously. What am I to do?

One side of mine is always hot but differing temperatures. Even though I have the sparks coming next week I have already allocated 25k for a new fridge freezer.

I'd prefer Mitsubishi again if I can find one.

What I would do is give the fridge a reset by giving it a defrost. This can sometimes settle the gases back into the compressor and free up a thermostat or cycle a clock for defrost. Has it done a defrost cycle lately? Old fridges used to have a mechanical switch run on a very slow motor. More modern ones do it electronically but even these lock up at times and need resetting.
Just a few ideas that won't hurt or cost anything to try in the mean time before it is time to front the expenditure officer.

My freezer defrosts daily so I'm used to a rise in temperature in the freezer, usually it heats up to about -10 degC before reverting to -18/19 degC. I've not noticed a significant rise in the fridge temperature previously.

I'm thinking that the door seals after 19 years are probably not at their best and to spend money replacing those would more than likely be uneconomical (if I could even find replacements).

I shall check the temperatures in the morning and if there is no change I'll bite the bullet and head down to HomePro with my 25k.

It had cold sides this evening. Is that a miracle?

No just means it is working properly then. So your power mystery is still just that. Maybe it is just due to the unusual hot spell making the fridge and the aircons work that much harder.

The freezer temperature is hovering around -14 degC whilst the fridge is c. 6 degC. I'll monitor it until the sparks comes on Wednesday - see what he can do before I start shelling out bags of cash.

Note for @nomad97 : If you don't have thermometers in your fridge/freezer, these are handy little pieces of kit. https://www.lazada.co.th/products/r...4m.searchlist.list.11.61f32fb1HrC2Ob&search=1

Thanks Yorky, I did wonder how you were monitoring your temperatures. You must have read my mind. Order placed!

I have three of them, one for the fridge, one for the freezer and one to monitor the hi-fi receiver temperature.

Why don't they install thermometers in fridge/freezers? Or perhaps they do now since we bought ours.

My fridge/freezer seems to be working normally. Yes, the side walls were very hot yesterday but, then again, during the day the kitchen is very hot too and the fridge door is often opened and closed. During the evening and last night, little activity with the fridge and the side walls were cold. They were still cold in the morning. I guess it is operating as it should. I will monitor the internal temperatures once I receive the thermometers from Lazada. I ordered 2 of the devices.

The blurb says they are accurate to 0.1 degC. I put 3 alongside each other and there was a descrepency of about .5 degC. Not that it matters for what we need.

I read the data on Lazada and they said +- 2 Deg C. Don't know where you pulled that from, scientific instruments are 0.1 deg C. Not this crap.!

Dunno, probably from one of the seller's sites (there are plenty of them). Not that it matters. However, if you do line up three in a row and there is only a range of .5 degC difference, they still could all be out by 5 degC or more.

Speaking of scientific instruments, a specification from a Total job I was working back in the 80s required a flowmeter with an accuracy of +2/-2%. The pipeline was 24" diameter and 110 km long and they wished to determine how much water was left after dewatering. An efficient dewatering operation could leave approximately 1 - 2 mm of water on the internal pipewall.

Sparks came around today. He checked out the fridge but cannot add frion as it's a sealed unit. He suggested that the freezer was too full and therefore restricting the airflow. It's currently reading -16.5 degC.

In addition to servicing the two aircons, they fitted two replacement LED lights in the bathrooms, replaced 2 duff ceiling light bulbs and checked out the cooker hood. Total labour price Bht 1,000.00 (about 3¼ hours). I had no complaints.

I received the temp gauges a couple of days ago and stuck one in the freezer and the other in the fridge. This morning, the freezer was showing -19*C and the fridge was 4*C. Not bad at all for a 15 year old appliance. I guess both are within limits for the safe storage of food.
