electric bill

I may refine my spreadsheet later. The important thing for me is to read the meter every 2 or 3 days and check to see if there are any spikes in consumption. As Nick pointed out, most meters in the soi are of the 5/15 amp variety. Ours is the higher rated 15/45 amp. The welders are long gone and, as @Rice pointed out, I have eliminated all the other explanations for the spike and, no matter how unlikely that reason maybe, the welders hooking up to my supply is the only plausible explanation remaining.

I have tabulated the last 6 months bills (approximated at 4.31/unit)

The bill for Mar 19 was a massive 2,500 baht more than the previous average monthly bills. That is one hell of a spike and within our house there was no noticeable change in our usage pattern.

This may be a dumb suggestion, but have you considered bringing this information to your power company's attention? They might have ways to tell where and how such an unusual bump in usage came about. Just a thought...

Simultaneous thought!

Daughter's 18th birthday today - and she has her friends around. (No GL, this isn't an invitation to an orgy!) BOTH aircons in the living room are on, plus two fans, plus another fan in the kitchen. They are baking cakes... and using TWO ovens, plus myriad mixers and blenders. The wheel in the meter is spinning like there's no tomorrow. I fear the worst!!

About 35 years ago my family moved house from Leeds on to the Wirral. The first telephone bill at the new house was just over 150 quid. I wrote to BT and told them that for the previous 7 years our bills have been no more than 35 quid (I enclosed copies of the bills) and asked them to check their readings. After a couple more calls they wrote and asked if I would settle for 35 quid!

However, that wasn't Thailand!

Have you asked for the meter to be tested?

I have. Have you ever tried to motivate your wife to do something when she does not want to do it? I would need her to be onboard and fighting the case. 'Mission Impossible' comes to mind.

It is a good thought but PEA would be none the wiser as the meters are not the smart type. Since @nomad97 readings have returned to normal I think we can rule out meter error.
These very simple system are usually extremely reliable.

Received the electric bill this morning. Higher than forecast because useage during the past week or two has been higher than average due to continuing very hot weather and due to a 33 day billing period.

The broad figure of 4.31 baht/unit works well for estimated useage. Only 100 baht difference over a 33 day month.
