Extending 'permission to stay' at Kap Cheong

^^^
Yup, your Australian tax dollars hard at work doing zero-to-nil assisting Australian tax payers. :worried:

Same happens in most Western countries until this finally breaks the piggy bank.

Just look at how tax dollars have assisted keeping less-than-stellar immigrants on the gravy train. In Australia one wouldn't have to look so far...same as America and other wealthier nations.

It's okay, we can disagree. Different experiences and viewpoints. Stay strong.;;victory;;

My wife and I arrived at KC Immigration Office at 08h35. There was one farang ahead of us but he was dealt with in just two or three minutes.
I presented all the documents required and copies of everything. I was after an extension based on retirement using the money in the bank route.

The young lady very efficiently extracted just one of each document, put them in her order and stapled them together. She them stamped them with the signing box. I signed and was then sent off to get a copy of the entire dossier from the copy shop across the road from the main entrance. This was the only bit of the
process that jarred, as I had clearly wasted time, printer ink and paper making all the copies! Whilst I was away my wife was asked to complete a couple of forms in Thai.

Upon return I had to sign a document saying that I was aware of the new rules about overstay and then we were asked to sit in the main room. We were seen straight away by one officer who filled out the huge ledger entry. She passed us to another who checked the computer against my passport and used the camera as in the airport immigration. Everything was then passed to a third officer who, after a few minutes handed me back my passport and showed me the 30 day under consideration stamp and explained, in good English, that an officer would telephone to inform us of a house visit in the near future.

Everything was very pleasant and relaxed and we were out in 1 hour 10 minutes. We had taken our two year old grandson along and he was, fortunately, at his cutest and brought one or two smiles and comments from the officers.

On to Chong Chom market for some shopping and back in Surin for lunch at 12h00.

OK, so if you don't sign said declaration then you are not subject to that rule (or is it law)?

What a load of unnecessary bollocks!

[Edit: I am not aware of signing a declaration that I was aware of all the other laws in Thailand (whether new or old).]

No you won't.

So, if I may ask? What is the point of signing the declaration to confirm that I'm aware of the law if I'm subject to the law anyway even if I don't sign it? It all seems superfluous to me (not being a Thai).

It's a wonder they don't get you to sign a form to confirm that you have signed the form about the new laws!

I think I did! LOL.

My wife received a LINE yesterday, Christmas Day, to say that my request to extend my stay for a further year had been approved. Come on down and collect a new stamp in your husband's passport whenever you like. Now wasn't that a nice Christmas present for my wife? Personally speaking, I sometimes get a perverted feeling of wouldn't it be fun not to be approved for a further year. The mind kind of runs wild for a short time of all the other places I could see while I am on the run from Thailand. Then I get brought back down to earth with a jolt and receive an 'Extension approved'. Ces't la vie! Back to family life once again. LOL.

My two satang (advice) is to call KCI the day before you plan to go.
Inquire as to what time would be best (like they really would know what tomo brings, eh) and just to make sure there will be a 'big cheese' on hand to approve the stamp.

Good luck to you on another year in paradise. Try not to let your blood boil as you pass through Prasat.

Congratulations for being 'legal' again. It does make me grin a little, that they contact your wife and not the person applying for an extension (but it's still good news all the same.).
Maybe that's yet another top rate KCI detective strategy, but then again..........
Happy 2016!

They obviously contact the head of the household

Correct Nookie (thumbs up!)

Remember Nomad is on an extension based on Retirement - yet his SWMBO is the contact ('contract') point :p

Hey! I know who wears the pants in my household and it isn't me! LOL! This is what having a PHd in Thai Psychology is all about. Let them think they are the boss, tell them frequently they are the boss and they fall for it all the time. What you get back in return is absolutely great. "Sorry SWMBO, be with you straight away dear!" 555.

Nomad, how did they get SWMBO's Line ID? Reason being, they never asked for my wife's Line ID and just told me to go to KCI a couple of days before my Under Consideration expires. I did call once about 2 weeks before and they told me to come in on the day it expired, mind you they sounded a bit busy when my wife called.
