Extending 'permission to stay' at Kap Cheong

Correct Nookie (thumbs up!)

Remember Nomad is on an extension based on Retirement - yet his SWMBO is the contact ('contract') point :p
Could it be that it's easier for them to talk to someone who is fluent in Thai?

My wife is a friendly type and at some point recently she exchanged telephone numbers and LINE details with a member of the Immigration staff. I understand it was the night following my visit to Immigration when someone rang and asked me to bring my passbook when I returned to collect my approval for a further year. I joke with SWMBO saying that he must be her Sami Noi!

It well could be , Voodoo. I'm pretty sure that some of the IO's can clearly say, "Git your arse in here on the 30th so we can stamp your passport. Dank you veeery much."
If the wife (Nomad's SWMBO) has given them her contact information instead of Nomad's then that's what they'll use.
Some of the IO's speak English better than many expats who do not speak English as a first or native language.

Again, call in advance for time and the date to receive your stamp...otherwise you may not be a happy camper.
In Nomad's case best to allow his wife to make that call.

As avid readers will remember, my wife and I went to KCI last Thursday to get a one-year visa extension based on retirement. I was given 30 days under consideration and told to await a home visit.

KCI called my wife this morning at around 09h45 and informed her they would be visiting our home between 14h00 and 15h00 today. She was told that two Thais with house books and ID cards should be present to guarantee for me....it could be the Poo Yai Ban but that was not essential. We had already arranged for my two guarantors to be on standby working on the assumption that the visit was likely before the New Year holiday.

Two immigration officers arrived at 14h45. Both spoke English, one to a very good level, though, as Nomad mentioned in his description of the home visit, it was rather as if the farang was the one person that need not be there, and so not much English was spoken.

The two guarantors had photocopies made of their documents (the officers brought their own copier) and signed forms. Photos were taken, one of all of us outside the house with the house number showing.

Everything was relaxed, friendly and unstressful. The whole procedure took about 30 minutes and the officers went on their way to two further house-calls having told me to telephone a couple of days before the date stamped on my passport to enquire if the extension had been granted so as not to waste a journey.

Another important point that emerged, worth noting for those of you that will go through this in the future, is that the guarantors have to live close by. The officer told one of mine that sometimes they had to refuse people living too far away from the farang they were brought in to guarantee.

Guarantors for or of what ?
Yorky, what do you think as you sounded incredulous a few weeks back.
(One's wife is not considered part of becoming a guarantor.)

A fine , concise report, John.
Truly the expat isn't considered in the scheme of things by IMM.
We are just 'vehicles' for economic support of a larger Thai family group.
It's seems to come back full circle ,"Show me the money, hon-nee. Than-kee you." ;;girl;;

I diď. They have an abundance of IO's in Surin Prov / KCI.
Number of expats last reported to reside in Surin - over 2,000. How many do you see ?

Possibly some have stopped reporting or fail to file for extension.
Why don't you ask yòur two 'witnesses' about the pàpeŕs the IO's had them sign verifying if you're living at home "for reàl". Their signature puts them legally on hook in case you're filing an address but not really residing there...(no idea what the penalty would be as I do not read Thai).

Coffee. I have not, repeat NOT, had two witnesses sign to verify that I live where I live. I don't know why you think that I have.

After you file your extension you must have two 'witnesses' / 'guarantors' on premises when IMM pays you a house call.

But only since late June 2015. Mine was all sorted and finalised prior to said date.

[Edit: Ask me again in 6 months]

Maybe you will post up your experience for others to read at that time.
Nobody knows what the future brings, Dr Who.

I had my interview this morning. It was exactly the same as JohnB's post #405. I was told the interviews are a result of the bombing in Bangkok. They are interviewing all Farangs in Surin province 100%. I was told marriage Visas will have the interview every year and retirement Visas every two years.

There building an international airport at Chong Chom.

You were told a load of bollocks Joe. The Erawan bombing was 17th August 2015 (after the start of this fiasco).

[Gotlost posted this on 30th June 2015: "As of today (and yes I have seen the stamp and passport) KCI is now issuing a UNDER CONSIDERATION STAMP until immigration comes to your residence to for verification. KCI even verified the individuals address by using Google Earth with GPS coordinates for the investigating i/o to use for no extra charge. This will require two trips to KCI for your retirement extension"]

Ah, but you are thinking logically, Yorky. Such thoughts do not apply in these matters.

Taken from BE..Just posted.

I returned to KCI for my retirement extension this morning following the home visit which took place before Christmas. Visa extension granted no problem however there was an interesting little twist. The IO re-checked all the paperwork and then another IO requested that I follow him to an outdoor seating area adjacent to the toilets. There I was introduced to his boss ( he stated head of KCI and was in civilian clothes) who checked passport and then gave a small speech about the consequences should any foreigner on a retirement visa be found working in Thialand. He requested assurance that I fully understood I could not work and stated that they were aware of many foreigners who ran businesses in wives names. He stated that the Immigration Office employed detectives to check on this and anyone discovered working would leave the country permanently. Another gent there for his visa got the same speech. Wives were requested to be present also. The above was delivered on Thai and and English.
After that I was returned to the main office and passport stamped. Then waited another 45 mins for my re- entry permit to be processed but they were kind enough to do the photocopy of the new retirement extension to add to my already completed pack.
Total time 1hr 30min and all quite friendly and polite.
That's that out the way for another year.

Could anyone find out what is properly considered "working" in LOS ?
