Latest - Retirement Extension

Some 25 years or more ago, foreigners living here, on whatever visa existed in those days, were required to obtain a "tax cerificate" from the revenue office in Bangkok, if an overseas trip was planned.. Basically it was necessary to open a fixed deposit account for 20,000baht for 1 year, and the revenue office having recorded all the information, would have access to that account for a one year period, if, for any reason you had unpaid tax

I had to obtain one due to a 2 week visit to the UK. Once the year was up I went into the bank (Pattaya branch) to take out my 20,000baht + interest. The bank insisted I go all the way to Bangkok to collect the relevant paperwork from the revenue office. I refused stating that the one year contract between the bank, the revenue and me had ceased. Nothing doing. I went off see the manager, and after some choice words was escorted from his office, with him telling me never to use the word "corrupt" to him again.

I did go to Bangkok a few days later, not to the revenue but to the banks HO. Up to the top floor, (19th I recollect) and had a friendly discussion with a vice president. No problem -all resolved. I would have my money within 2 days

2 days later there was a handwritten note in my letterbox asking me to come to the bank. After a coffee and a few signature I had my money. Upon enquiring about the manager I was told he no longer worked at that branch!

Have been informed by SWMBO there is only 1 bank branch at Chong Chom Market.

I don't think they are stubborn. If they are lacking in knowledge they just say anything. The Thai customers just accept it so the staff just keep doing it. Until they come across someone who doesn't accept it and asks "Why not?" Normally a Farang.

Thai customers accept what, Yorky ?
I wasn't aware that many Thai customers would ever require a financial asset holdings letter specifically for Immigration from a bank where their funds were held...(even if they had any assets over THB 800,000 in a bank to begin with).

Yes, it’s all too easy to just roll over to authority. In my late teens I was passed over for a junior promotion in a large North West Metropolitan Council. I immediately took the huff, as you do lol, and applied for an internal transfer to a different department within the same Authority.

I was working in the Treasury department and a senior auditor let slip to me that the Treasury Director had blocked my move. I was livid and demanded an interview with this naysayer! Not good enough for promotion but too good to let go?

Anyway, I got my transfer and was happy but a couple of years later I joined the RAF

I’m in the immediate process of transferring 800,000 to my Thai bank. I told my teerak and it’s the first time in over 10 years that she’s asked my for my PIN number

 This is where the trust factor comes in. What could possibly go wrong. :mask:

Trust is all well ...but just do yourself a favour and put withdrawal limits and notifications on your account.
(But absolutely let her know that if you kick the bucket it's all hers for the taking.) :D

Geez Coffee, I didn’t give her the bloody number! I did make a will earlier this year and she and my son are the beneficiaries of all my debts

I had to get one of those tax certificates, still have it. It was required for my first ever visa to stay in Thailand.

Did I mention anything about assets and Immigration in my post?

Be aware of Thai village loans. They are rolled over every year, villagers all guarantee for each other, and upon death, someone has to pay, estate or not.
We've got one of them Nick, 150,000 baht for the man cave. I give them about 6000 baht every year at the same time for the interest, this year I am going to pay it back then get it back again to build my second man cave. I may give my old one to the family.
