Transfer of monies from overseas to Thailand

Aaahh! Trust! It really is quite simple. I trust my wife implicitly. She has all the capital assets, the family gold and all the money. I trust her to let me live with her in her house and to drive her car whenever it is free to do so. I also trust her to give me some money whenever I need some. In return, I pay all the bills, including the mortgage on the house and the finance on the car and put any spare cash in her bank account. Its an arrangement that has worked very well for the past 14 years and I see no reason why it should not continue this way forever. And that, in nutshell, is what trust is all about.

Have been with my wife for 20 years now, and like Nomad trust her implicitly. That is more however than can be said for my first Thai wife

Good question. If she uses your account why not? Surely TW will be none the wiser as to whether you are dead or alive. Better still, open an account in her name too.

It is illegal.

That may not be a reason not to do it.....but she needs to know that it is fraudulent.

I have opened an account for my missus, as have others.

The solicitor also has access to a large chunk of the assets for his/her minimal work. By keeping complete records of passwords Pins, log-ins etc one can often avoid the need for Solicitors and probate

Where trust is an issue, we at Thai Widows & Expats recommend allowing the wife/partner access to the ATM card. member name etc, but give the PIN,.password etc to a trusted friend. Neither can access your account alone whilst you are alive, but after death can access it together with the pooled information

One problem found recently was that the wife/widow had not only forgotten the main password, but also could not remember the access code to the safe!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This has meant using costly lawyers/solicitors both here in Thailand and in the UK. Could so easily have been avoided.

Finding out after your death that your Thai wife is not as smart/clued up as you liked to think they were is no help.

Trust me, with over 50 widows that have passed through our hands (so to speak) I have not yet met one that has turned out to be smarter than I thought she was.

CO -CO, when we lived in the UK I opened a joint account with Wood which has been left opened with about 10 GBP in it.
When I 'pop my clogs" would the bank allow the account to continue and be used to pay his (my) partners pensions into.

With CO-CO still no doubt sleeping (in the UK) I can answer that in the affirmative.

I would recommend that you advise your pension payer NOW, that , that is what you want, when , as you say you "pop your clogs" Wood can then make transfer to Thailand arrangements as best suits him.

Actually, I would answer that in the negative.

Actually, it may be negative - it depends on the bank. At HSBC a totally new account, with new account number and cards, had to be opened for the surviving account holder. Were that to happen Wood would not meet account opening requirements.

I suggest you contact the bank to ask the specific question.

As a back up open a Transferwise Borderless account for Wood.

I remember when First Direct first came out. Quite a trail blazer and very innovative at the time

I suppose if they did not know you had "popped your clogs" there would be no problem Unlikely to know if nobody tells them

That is also true - but not without it’s risks.

I would risk it - if I had the back up of a TW account.
