electric bill

"...as I spend most of the day outside the house."

And I do as well, so no need for A/C for us most of the time. That, along with great ventilation, lots of shade and large and well-placed windows with screens, a double front door with a screen, and just two of us most of the time gives us an average electric bill of about Bt 700-800/month.

When I lived in Jomtien 30+ years ago, my electric bill was always 600/700Baht/month. If I can get away with less than 3,000Baht/month now. I am happy.

Nomad97-I also spend lots of time o/s the house.Over this end of town,we re more aclimatised to the Isan weather!Find a/c dries up the air too much though. From March to May,the a/con was on quite alot.

It's not the heat that gets to me, it's the humidity. I guess my side of town is more humid than your side of town. Another factor that pushes up my electric bill is I do not drink alcohol during daylight hours. This means I do not frequent watering holes in town and I do not get acclimatised to non air-conditioned environments therein. I stay at home and switch on the air conditioning instead. That's possibly why my bill is higher than many. :D:D:D

I also don't drink alcohol during the day nor do I frequent watering holes, however I am outside most of every day doing mundane things such as mowing the lawn, working in my workshop, playing with the dog, washing the motocy or truck (though not so much lately because of the water shortage), fixing things and generally just being busy and as a result I have become acclimated to our heat and humidity. Can't say I like it always, but that's what we have and it's better than what we had at times in America where I lived.

I didn't need or use air con then and I don't need or use it much now, but I've got it if I want it. Works very well for me, because again...that's what we have here.

Not much point really as I spend most of the day outside the house.

However, I do have stand-up fans one of which I generally employ should the shade temperature exceed 30 degC. It's rarely above fan speed No. 1 unless I have guests. The bedrooms have ceiling mounted oscillating fans and the lounge has two 1.00 m diameter three blade ceiling fans.

3,881 THB for August… lower than July, but Nomad's managed to keep the fridge door closed more, or has been cooking salads, and has beaten me to it. ;)

2,669 THB here. This is around normal for this time of year. And that is with the new well pump running on top of the normal use. The water bill was 32.10 THB last month. Which mean zero consumption from public water.

We are using mains water again and our cost was 53 baht, kind of. To begin with, the bill was 153 baht. However, I noticed that the meter man had misread the meter. We had been over charged by 6,000 litres. My wife took a photo of the meter to the Water Office in town and pointed out the error. The meter man read the meter again yesterday. He explained that he did not want to reset the meter and gave my wife 100 baht instead (6 units @ 18 baht/unit). He wanted to refund the whole cost but my wife refused. My wife joked with him and hit the nail on the head. If they misread the meter they get put in the boss's black book and have to pay the boss the full cost of the bill. They also get a black mark and have to refund the customer from their pocket too. By keeping my wife happy he saved himself from being reported and some money too. His annual bonus due the end of the year remains intact. :D:D:D
